Re: who here uses in-ear plugs?

I use Hearos High Fidelity ear plugs. Picked 'em up at GC. I had tinnitus about three years ago and haven't played without some form of ear protection since. If I strike a drum or cymbal with...

Re: Should I Jump On This Stage Custom?

I've bought and sold a 2010 Yamaha Stage Custom Birch kit with the 20" kick. A brand new SCB kit with the hardware pack retails for $900. In my experience the hardware was very adequate with the...

Re: Yamaha Musashi Snare owners

I owned the 6.5 x 13 Musashi for a couple of years before I sold it. Superb snare at its price point.

Re: Best drum tuner out there?

I can tune by ear, however by the time I've tuned the batter and reso on 4 - 6 drums I start hearing tones that interfere with the pitches at the lugs I am looking for. I own a DD and a TB. If there...

Re: Jacob Armen

I don't know much about him. I've probably watched every YT vid from the kid years to more recent stuff. Phenomenal drummer.

Re: Anyone know what kind of drums these are?

I'll be taking a guess here. It looks like a PDP kit. The light color shell interior suggests birch or maybe poplar to me.

Re: Attention Tune-Bot Owners!

After a couple of days of experimentation and getting familiar with the Tune-Bot, today I really tried to dial in the best sound "I" could get out of the toms I'm currently using.

I started with...

Re: Reso heads tighter or looser than batter?

The way I understand it is:

Both heads the same pitch for maximum sustain.

The greater the disparity between the two heads the dryer the drum.

Batter tighter for pitch bend and fall.

Re: Attention Tune-Bot Owners!

Thanks Gvd. I used those settings for 3 toms. The FTs were a winner but the 12" isn't doing it for me at the moment. I'm going to do some experimenting.

Re: Attention Tune-Bot Owners!

I picked one up today. I tuned my 12/14/16 toms using the recommendations for maximum sustain on the Tune-Bot calculator. My FTs are singing for days at the moment. I'm not excited about these...

Re: Big Bass Drum Wars - The Champion

A 28" sub-kick would compliment that nicely.

Re: 5 star drum shops

Interesting question. I've got my perception of what makes a 5-star drum shop, but my perception is probably different than the definition if there is one. It seems to me a shop which caters to...

Re: Which pro set gives most bang for the buck?

The DW Performance Series is a pro kit at a softer price point than some of the other pro offerings out there. I can't say it has the most bang for the buck (still not the cheapest pro kit out...

Re: Why? Why? Why?

If hardware, particularly stands, become too light it would probably be prone to instability.

Re: Acrylic Drum options

I don't know a whole lot about them, but I will say those Crush acrylics look sweet IMO.

Re: DW rack-tom mount

I've seen those mounts for $100+US. If they didn't charge you any extra for it sounds like you got a deal.

Re: Shell interior treatment?

Interesting topic. I'd like to add a question if I may. Drums shells that are lacquered inside and out have essentially sealed up the wood. Will this prohibit the maturing process of the wood?

Re: Metal vs. Metal (Snare drums)

I recently picked up a 6.5 x 14 DW Black Nickel Over Brass snare. It is quite different from their heavy 3 mm brass snare. The BNOB is a 1 mm rolled shell with 3 mm True Hoops. Other features include...

Re: DW rack-tom mount

The aux. clamp should face the rear. I don't believe that is a law or anything, but the intended design. Perplexed how you ended up with a kick mount. You didn't request that? Nothing wrong with...

Re: DW rack-tom mount

I should have mentioned this in my first post…Congratulations on your kit!

Did you buy it second hand? If it's a DW Performance Series and has a tom mount, someone must have retrofitted it. Any...

Re: DW rack-tom mount

Hey there rbd. When you say mounts on top of the bass drum do you mean your bass drum has a tom mount bolted to it? Performance Series kick drums are undrilled or virgin kick drums. Was your kick...
