I am sure I heard Ian say in an interview that he didn't have sheet music charts, just some key points he had made for himself along the lines of "thump thump here" stop for 16 bars, "bang bang etc"...

I must say that although I wouldn't rate Vinnie as my favorite drummer, I do think he is so far the greatest drummer to have lived on earth. He is just able to do everything with such taste and flare...

Ian Paice was my biggest influence. He was the first guy that I heard do things like follow the guitar riff and go over the bar line with his fills. His fills on outros especially are stunning....
