Re: Time exercises help?

Thank you. At this point in time burying the click confuses me (I know it's on time but not hearing it makes me question myself). I think I will move to the click on + for the moment. It fits me...

Re: Time exercises help?

For those of us that are new to get the most out of this thread, what does "burying the click" mean?

Re: A lesson for all newbies

This is actually something that has just recently started bothering me as well. Except I am on the "other" side here. That is...assuming 2 snare drums are (on the surface) the same. Both aluminum,...

Re: Has anyone or famous drummers recorded with these crap drums?

I think I found someone who will trade with the OP gladly.

Re: Do you really change drum settings while gigging?

This reminds me of a piece of hardware (actually 2) I have imagined (as a concept. I have NO idea how it would work/fit). A lazy Susan Hi-Hat stand (or in this case a snare stand).

Re: Ugh! I hate my feet!

"Sambas are usually played in cut time. So actually 104 is 208. Pretty nippy!

Re: Ugh! I hate my feet!

Perhaps it is my newbieness showing, but I am not getting why you would NEED to play that fast. According to the bpm chart I found for dances at beatsperminuteonline.com a samba's high end tempo is...

Re: Child wants a career in music

The take away I had from the quote (and example I gave) is that for me plan b was presented as either or. I could either try to play drums for a living or I do something else (in my family there was...

Re: Child wants a career in music

Will Smith was asked once "if the rap thing had not turned out like it did, what was your plan b?" I loved his response. "There was no plan b. Having a plan b is giving yourself permission to fail"....

Re: Mapex drum set

It looks like a voyager. It is Mapex' bottom end. New it lists for $629 (msrp is 1000 but no one charges that). It comes with everything in the picture at that price. That is all I know.

Re: Limiting myself

The rudiments are for all styles. This may be grossly over simplified, but bear with me. At it's most basic level there are 26 fundimental (or rudementary) sticking combinations. These are the 26...

What were they?

A long time ago I had a kit made by pearl that looked like roto-toms with a fiber glass concert tom shell attached. I have yet to see anything resembling them again. Does anyone know what they were?

Re: When does sound become music

The short version of my view. If a sound gives you an emotional response, it is music.Yes, by that definition the sound of a lawnmower that wakes you up angry is, for that moment, music.

Re: Theoretical time signature

That's kinda where we ended up, but it was a long time ago and I was 16 or so. It occured to me we may have missed something so it was worth asking.

Theoretical time signature

About 20 years ago a friend and I were talking music theory and time singatures. We came up with an idea. What if there was a note that mathematically was exactly 1/3 the time of a whole note and...

Re: What is it?

I had some pearl...I want to say concert toms...that were similar. They were essentially a rototom with a shell (mounted on a regular pearl tom mount).
