Re: Drummers who don't use cymbal stoppers

Note that the little hi-hat felts will change the way the cymbal sounds. May be a good thing or a bad thing depending on what you want. I use large felts on the ride but normal ones on the crashes.

Re: Biggest problem with a sub, or new band member?

Since I also play guitar, I think of "parts" as the little melodic bits or hooks in a tune. To be a good sub, you should know the horn parts, the keyboard parts and the guitar parts. You never know...

Re: Drummers who don't use cymbal stoppers

Wing nuts go on during transit to keep the felts on, but not necessary on the gig. Just more time in set up/tear down. Maybe I should come up with a way to retain the felts without needing a wing...

Re: Strange woman found lurking in the workshop ;)

There may be a piccolo snare in there somewhere. But it's probably not worth the effort.

Re: Benny Greb's DVD about Groove

This is the new wave. "Crowdsourcing". People throw up an idea they have, ask folks to chip in, and the "investors" get a piece of the pie, or at least a product.

It's part of the Steve Jobs...

Re: What do you think of GetSticks.de?

For people who go though sticks constantly, I can sort of see some merit in not having a place orders every month or so.

But basically on line sales comes up with two models.

Lowest price - the...

Re: Best Hearing Protection?

Confused, if you have in ear monitors, you should have attenuation of ambient sound levels. You could always put muffs over them.

More likely that you have "on" ear monitors, better known as...

Re: Playing "War" what is it good for.

I think KamaK might have the answer. So many songs have tambourine in them but some like War are all about it.

Red, I have a Rhythm Tech Hat Trick. It works good on the foot pedal and you can...

Re: Need forum wisdom (fusion "standards")

How about cumbia/hip-hop/jam band? http://youtu.be/jmWnvHo2Mgw I guess you can fuse anything together if you want. The drummer in here has a timbale instead of a shell tom. Like a lot of jam band...

Re: Playing "War" what is it good for.

I have one of those Larry. If I mount it really loose so it can shake it makes some level of sound but not enough for even a bar gig.

Maybe it's because I typically use pretty small and light...

Re: playing along with stuff

Something about this sounds like over the top specsmanship. Multiple drivers per bandpass is only necessary if you can't get enough SPL out of one. e.g. large concert systems. Plus there is...

Re: Playing "War" what is it good for.

I've tried a couple mountable tambourine things and none of them make enough volume for even a moderate gig. I learned the trick of draping a light one over the hat from some other folks. It...

Great playing, great sounds. Another series of drummer vids to marvel at.

Re: Adding click when practicing to CDs

I think the OP is saying that the band uses a click and has given him some songs on CDs to learn.

Oh boy, is this going to be fun.

I would ask the band for the backing tracks they use with the...

Re: John bonham/jazz tuning (this thread again?)

Many sound folk don't like sustain in drums. A funny thing happens in the room, especially with kick drums and big subwoofers. There's a lot of overhang and reverberation. More in the low...

Playing "War" what is it good for.

A band I play in has decided they want to play the song War, what is it good for. 99% of the percussion in the song is a viciously played tambourine. The song is all about the big hits, ...

Re: Those of you who have "sound proofed" a room for your drums...

I don't think this would work very well. If you've ever loaded one, banging a pallet into a side wall sounds like a drum from the outside. For the same cost you could probably have a cinder block...

Re: Found some ancient recordings!

At the time you think that you're killing it though. They're long gone but I remember hearing some tapes of my psychedelic j-teen band recorded on my dad's reel to reel (over something that he liked...

Re: Need forum wisdom (fusion "standards")

Try Spain, or for the truly gifted, Got A Match.

Stratus and Red Baron are a couple more standards most fusion oriented players know. Maybe you can call Jaco's "The Chicken" fusion.

Fusion...

Re: How do you save up for gear purchases?

Don't buy other stuff.

Actually, I don't buy that much gear anyway. There's usually enough gig money that I can justify pouncing on a snare or cymbal when a killer deal comes along. That is, I...

Didn't recognize the models to know what kind of mics he had.

AIF is a computer audio interface protocol, not a file type that I'm familiar with.

Agree, start from page 1 and work though it. ...

I think of "Shemping" as not knowing when to let it drop. Some threads went on for pages with him defending his position against all comers.

The British Empire lingo adds some flavour and from...

Re: playing along with stuff

I really like AKG K240 headphones. They cut the exterior sound level but still let some natural sound through. I have some Grados that don't block anything so you'd have to wear ear protection...

Re: Recording help

If things are terribly distorted then you are driving the inputs too hard. There should be an input trim or gain control. If it has a weird underwater sound, that is digital aliasing from very low...

Just read this, it sounds more like she was disgusted (as most reasonable people would be) with the internet trolls who have probably been all over various posts ragging on some thing or another...
