Re: Doc Sweeney drums

I know he buys his stave shells from Daville Drumworks. So you may be able to get the same drums a bit cheaper by going direct to Daville.

Re: Whitney Nesting Drums

I really want to Photoshop Barney Rubble behind that kit.

Re: Can't take PDP seriously somehow

If this were true PDP would have mentioned specifically using NA hard rock maple for these series of drums, but every catalogue dating back to those drums never mentions it. They do, however,...

Re: Can't take PDP seriously somehow

Ugh, I just read the other posts in this thread and there is a lot of misinformation about PDP's drums.

For one, only the Platinums we're made with Hard Rock Maple. Every other Maple kit PDP...

Re: Whitney Nesting Drums

I don't like to throw much shade, but yeah, that kit looks like its straight out of the Flinstones.

Re: Mapex Saturn identification

Those are Saturn III's. They were made from the mid 2000's to early-mid 2010's. The early ones had the serial number stamped on the badge and the later ones had the serial on the interior on the...

Yes. I've given my reasoning in one of the other 12 million other Stage Custom vs.... threads.

Re: New lugs on Maple Custom snare

Yeah, Yamaha designed the first run of Maple Customs with a bad lug design. You should be able to replace them with just about any single point lug, or possibly with a tube lug or double ended lug...

Re: Drummers Review video of new Mapex's Cherry Bomb Kit

I believe drummers review does the least amount of processing they can on their recordings. Great sounding kit though.

Re: New Drums from Mapex

Considering the size and the number of screws used to make this new mounting arm, I imagine there is a lot of adjustability in this mount to "tune" the drums sustain. So, with this assumption said,...

Re: And the wood hoop project is complete!

Yeah, Yamaha does that cut on all the hoops to let you put the drums a bit closer. I think they also do relief cuts on the reso hoops of floor toms for the legs.

Re: And the wood hoop project is complete!

It's a relief cut for the snare strainer arm.

I think the poly'ed hoops look better than the natural. Their richer color goes better with the bronze glitter.

Re: Can you identify this Kit?

Good catch on the Red badge. I quick look at Tama's catalogue archive reveals Swingstars red badges with the Royalstar style lugs in 1982/83.

Re: Is made in the US really that much better?

If there is one thing, well 2 things, the USA does well in the drum world it is making heads and drumsticks. Remo, Evans, Vic Firth, Pro Mark, Vater, Regal Tip, etc are all made in the USA and they...

Re: Is made in the US really that much better?

It's been a couple years (I think) since I did my DW/PDP comparison, but from what I recall, both sets had the same "maple" sound to them. Their construction was a little different (DW's had...

Re: Is made in the US really that much better?

Having worked with both woods, I will say that the NA Maple cuts cleaner, can be hand shaped with greater control and will hold a sharper edge than the Asian maple. This is mainly due to NA Maple's...

Re: Is made in the US really that much better?

I don't believe the US makes better drums than the rest of the world. Of the big 3 in the US (the major manufacturers: DW, Ludwig, Gretsch) , I would only buy a kit from DW. Ludwig and Gretsch have...

Re: Help finding specific Pearl tom lugs

These are very, very close but they are bass drum lugs. Not sure if that helps.

Re: Removing the tom mount off my Starclassic BD

You may want to try applying a little heat to the area to soften things up, which may prevent lacquer issues. I'm not so sure about using anything sharp around lacquer. Sounds like you are asking...

Re: Removing the tom mount off my Starclassic BD

If there is nothing fixing the mount to the drum, I would try installing the tom tree in the mount and lightly applying pressure to crack lose whatever is holding the mount on the drum.

Re: The 16x14 floor tom

I much prefer the sound of a 16x14 vs 16x16. Heck, a 16x13 or even a 12" depth would probably sound amazing, to me. I don't find one easier to tune than the other, but they do sound very different...

Re: Drum gear gimmicks that didn't really catch on

Don't be knockin' Tama Stilts. They are awesome:

To be honest, they are a bit extreme for most kits. They are great for huge...

Re: Wondering what my Tama Artstar II is worth

They look like 22x16, 12x11, 13x12, 16x16. Pretty common sizes for late 80's/early 90's

Re: Do you have better luck selling shell packs or complete sets?

The more you package in the deal, the less money you get. Sell it in logical "sets". Matching shell pack. That's a set. A snare? That can go on its own or as part of the kit if someone wants it....
