Re: Is made in the US really that much better?

Made in USA doesnít mean itís better, when I was replacing my gigging kit 15 yrs ago I compared a couple of brands to try/inspect. In the end Japanese made Yamahaís MCAN sounded as good as any but...

Re: Drinking beer at a gig

I have a ritual I always stick to, one pint of beer directly after the set is over. Nothing crazy strong, No drinking during the actual set. For that itís water. I am usually driving so more than...

Re: Growing drums... order

1) I would bring another snare that contrasts (deeper/shallower, wood/metal) with the main snare, as it can double as tom.

Re: Ride Cymbals Paired With Instruments

Rather than having multiple rides dry to bright too match the musical situation just switch switch from wood to nylon tip. Although this wonít work mid tune it is the simplist way without having to...

Re: The future of the drumset think tank

It’s hard to predict which technologies will get taken up by drum makers, the A drum kit hasn’t really changed much since the 1960s. This is part of the instruments appeal it’s apparent simplicity....

Re: guitars too loud, why?!!

Guitars are too loud because guitarists are rarely able to perceive the difference between a good sound as an individual as compared too whatís needed sound and volume wise within a whole band.

Re: The Sweetwater DW Purpleheart Drum Set seems really nice

Although itís true that the rain forests are being cut down at an alarming rate, most popular woods used in drum manufacturing such as maple, birch are managed and sustainable in the sense that they...

Re: Kick Drum miking help please?

OP there are many ways to achieve the sound you mention. I am not a fan of the JAW method. My preference for most kick drums is a Remo power stroke 3 batter head tuned medium with a Remo fibre skin...

Re: What drum trends do you NOT miss?

Coming to the party very late, but my 14. X 5.5 Brady Jared ply sounds very close to two princess, emperor cranked to the max.

Re: G. A. S. I've got it bad

Operate a policy that you have to sell a drum or cymbal in order to buy a drum or cymbal. Money out canít go above money in; no exceptions. It makes you really consider every purchase and ultimately...

Re: Pearl 8x14 Modern Utility demo

What this demo shows is that given a bit of effort setting up the drum there is very little difference between snares of the same or similar size. All the drum manufacturers and builders are pushing...

Virgin kick drums filled with dampening

In the mid 90s there was a fad / fashion for drummers to buy kits with undrilled kick drums. Which isn’t that convienent for tom placement etc.and every time I came across one of these kits on...

Re: The difficult sub 1200 range

Before you start discounting lower-mid end acoustic drum kits, be aware that a well tuned Pearl Export really isnt that different from the higher offerings if they are the same shell construction...

Re: The difficult sub 1200 range

Rather than going for imports maybe you could look at Tamburo Drums, really nice Italian made kits. Or maybe you could pick up a 2nd hand Pearl Masters, Gretsch Renown etc. Kit from the larger UK...

Re: Do you have any pre-performance rituals your band mates would prefer you stop doing?

I would not be bothered by what a guitarist thinks is appropriate, in general they have no clue as to what is physically involved in playing even just a 1h set let alone a 2h set.

The warm up...

Re: first rack tom position

I agree, something is a little off with your set up. You really shouldnít have to lean forward every time you move to the first tom. You should be able to reach the centre of each drum and cymbal on...

Re: DRUM SHELLS: Ply/Solid/Stave

I own and regularly interchange my set up between a maple ply kit (Yamaha, MCA) and a maple stave (Gary Noonan) depending on gig. I use the ply kit if I want a neutral sound and require a tone that...

Re: Dave Abbruzzese

The fact is that the drummer is the fool guy in Pearl Jam, none of the other members have been changed /replaced. It just goes to show that in most rock bands the drummer is the most replaceable....

Re: Sharing a stage/drums

Re: "Jazz Kit" Poll: Yamaha or Gretsch

I think you need to decide on how much you want to spend and try out all the offerings close to that price point. Or if that's impossible see as many videos of simple playing in the jazz style as...
