Re: Hey Joe: Great drumming or overplaying?

Well Mitchell wasn't setup for Jimi, he chose him....at the flip of a coin, over Aynsley Dunbar. They both auditioned. Just think how different THAT would have been.

Your point is well taken, but...

Re: Hey Joe: Great drumming or overplaying?

When I think of Mitch Mitchell I think of his playing on this (as well as Manic Depression). This song is totally who Mitch Mitchell is. In this regard I bet nobody else can play it this way.

Re: Hoop comparison video from Tama

Thanks, thats a very useful comparison. Tells me I don't prefer diecast on a snare. Nice sounding snare too.

Re: Do You Think...

Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden - all popular and heralded in the 90's grunge era, and being recognized as a genre on its own, will be known for decades.

Now...I can't think of a band starting in...

Re: Drum wrap removal - 70s Slingerland

Depends, some re-wraps are just some bands of sticky tape, and maybe even in just a couple of places along the circumference. Depends who did it. For example, wraps on cheap drums use only one strip...

Re: Drum wrap removal - 70s Slingerland

Ok, Believe it or not this method works and is fast.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhzoT_7xnEY

BUT I've used a variant on it for 3 Slingerland 3 ply drums, and it took less than 10 minutes. I...

Re: Is this Benny Benjamin?

Lots of still shots of him, I don't recall any 'action' footage. The other 2 drummers (Jones and Allen) were still alive and interviewed.

Re: Is this Benny Benjamin?

It appears to me Tate is shorter than the guy in the video, whereas Benny fits him to a tee if you Google many images of him, especially the eyes and moustache.
I think Larry un-earthed the only...

Re: "too Busy"

+1, especially since two different people have said the same thing.Take it as constructive feedback.
I wonder, has anybody ever been told their drumming was too simple, with not enough fills?

Re: Bonham played a 26 X 15 Kick?

You likely don't follow his channel but Bonzoleum had been trying to figure out these kinds of details for years, so ya he's excited.

Re: Is this Benny Benjamin?

Cool find. Jimmy Smith's drummers were mainly Don Bailey and Otis Finch (neither of whom look like that) but that does really look like Benny. Judging from the kit this would be early 60s' Ludwig...

re-save your pics to a smaller size in any photo viewer and save to your desktop, then upload as attachment from there.

Re: Singers timing

Drives me nuts, ...some are not great at giving up room for the spaces, or waiting for the 1. And yes I think you have nailed the reason.

HA...same happened to me. I too showed up with just this setup at one rehearsal, and the reaction of other band members was surprise/shock, almost like I showed up to a rifle range with just bow and...

Re: new to forum, question on which direction for tom and bass drum

The direction of the bass drum is dictated by the spurs on the bottom. The spurs are toward the front and should face outward toward front.
Its true the post can at times not be in the middle,...

I think you should follow your heart and go for them. They will for sure be a step up from your Forums in terms of sound, especially if you like the sound. They've got major mojo too.

Re: Is this statement about 'hired guns' kinda true or not..?

To a first-order its just supply-demand economics. If you have 200 people desiring only one glass of Heineken, the glass of Heineken drives a big price. If you have 200 drummers vying for being paid...

Re: It's the little things

Larry I could swear you said you never had your drums in cases, you transport them as is in your van. Maybe that was your old PDP, not the beloved Guru's.

Re: Post the best open drum solos here

Interesting technique, never saw him before.
He sits extremely high in the throne, almost standing, yet doesn't hunch over his kit at all.

Re: Buying a second hand 60's Ludwig drum set

You should pay attention to your wallet ...and offer a little less than the seller is asking. Used means dealing, and a price is possibly negotiable.

It sounds like a nice kit, good sizes. Good...
