Re: Is Dennis Chambers ill?

Just read this, it sounds more like she was disgusted (as most reasonable people would be) with the internet trolls who have probably been all over various posts ragging on some thing or another...

Re: Anyone ever try to poach your seat?

Ever see the movie Purple Rain? Pretty much my experience of the music industry. All is fair in love, war and getting gigs apparently. I've been muscled out of a few. One gig I've been doing...

Re: Leave Me Alone Please

Ideally you'd be able to play in a couple of the rooms you usually play since the kit typically sounds different on every stage. And have a friend you know how they play sit in on a song or two. ...

Re: Those of you who have "sound proofed" a room for your drums...

The Gervais book is the bible. There's a forum called GearSlutz with a section on folks who've build studios and rooms. And folks who have sunk a fortune into a build only to have a couple of...

Re: Leave Me Alone Please

When shopping for a kit, since I'll probably be using some other snare and definitely my own cymbals, I'm not really interested in grooving or filling. I'm interested in what the kick sounds like,...

Re: Ongoing hi hat problem

If the rod is moving within the clutch, the clutch just needs to be tightened up a bit. There are some that instead of the standard set screw lock have a sort of clamp with the screw off to the side...

Re: Good exercises for developing mobility around the set?

I think one of the biggest things is to learn to lead with either hand. So while you're practicing those stick control patterns, use the reverse part to run the other way on the kit. The lead hand...

Re: hi hat dis-assembly

In order to fit a hardware bag across the back of my hatchback I had to get a short one. Which forces me to break down stands in the middle. I've done the cut off the pull rod to fit in a case...

Re: Breaking into the NEXT LEVEL! Any practical wisdom for an eager young player?

I have a friend who's gotten at least 3 national tours by posting videos of him covering the artist's tunes on YouTube. Now, on these videos he's nailing the songs, transcribing and playing exactly...

Re: Mic Cables...

10 odd years ago I bought a bunch of cables from Orange County Speaker Repair. It was like $40 for ten colored cables. They have the lower end Neutrik connectors on them. Years of abuse and I've...

Re: Why is it you never see threads saying....

Folks that have been around will have some idea what a new "kit" will do. Get a new set of Stage Customs or Gretsch Renowns and there's a baseline for the sound. Then the question becomes what...

Re: Ongoing hi hat problem

When this happens take note of what moves with the pedal and what doesn't. Does the rod move up and down? Is the clutch following it but the cymbals stay together.

I really like the Remo quarter...

Re: Help - Meeting up with Guitarist

If you can't find an open mic jam in the vein that you play, what about meeting up at a music store? Having worked in one I'm not crazy about people just coming in to wank on the gear but it's done...

Re: Tuning tip

I've tried a few heads with rings or dots on my snare and never really liked it. As you move around the head there's a really sharp transition between a couple of different sounds. Not the sort of...

Tuning tip

A long time ago I was taught to put my finger in the middle of a head to damp it while tapping around the periphery to hear the various pitches at each lug. Today, for giggles, I tried putting a...

Re: How do I get out of the "drumming blues"?

This. Or less. I know a few folks who show up with a snare, kick, one tom, hat and one or two cymbals. The gig has to be worth it for them to bring a 4 piece or larger kit. Same with rehearsals. ...

Re: Does anyone else hate splash cymbals?

My normal cymbal set up is a ride, an 18 and a 15. And one effects cymbal. Some times this is an Ozone, sometimes a stack. This week after a few quieter gigs, the 10" splash is back in that slot. ...

Re: Bass vs. drums challenge video - released here first :)

First heard this though the little desktop speakers in my office. Just got to hear it though the monitors in my project room. OMG, that walnut kit has a kick drum that sounds like what an 808 wants...

Re: Don't underestimate your throne height

One thing, while I like sitting a bit high, I've still got the rim of the snare around my belt height. I've seen folks sitting up really high with the snare down between their thighs playing down...

Re: Al Jackson jr break in Turn You Loose. . . sounds simple . . .

I'm not a good reader but I can see that he put the basics of 3 bars in there. The first note of the 3rd where the remainder is missing is the same as the first note of the 2nd. There is the first...

Re: Favorite Song to Rock out To?

Oh yeah, Saw a Mike Johnston video (which I can't find right now) where he talks about jamming over songs with a drum machine and just trying anything you can think of. Two of my favorites for this...

I'm afraid to look, are there "expert" videos on house wiring on that site?

Re: Al Jackson jr break in Turn You Loose. . . sounds simple . . .

Man, is that hi-hat ride way up on the beat. But he holds it down with snare backbeats right where they belong. Most people play this song way too fast. Al gives it the drive without a crazy...

Re: Tuning "experts" mini rant

Besides the cognitive dissonance, there's the typical phases of learning.

At first you know that you're a beginner.

Then you realize you're getting better.

When you can do things somewhat...

Re: need a new cymbal boom arm

The best "toothless" tilter I've found is unfortunately the DW one. Quick, easy and never slips. They have been putting it on some lighter weight stands recently.

I've been collecting used...
