Re: 2nd. Kit - Can't Decide!

The Superstars are the most well-constructed intermediate kits on the market in my opinion, especially since they incorporated some of the hardware from the Starclassics. Solid drums.

Re: theoritical thought

Go bigger. Hear every individual player in a orchestra as if they were alone, yet still be able to hear every last player together as one.

It seems to go above and beyond what the human brain is...

Re: theoritical thought

At first I thought this was a very sarcastic post, mocking the wordy language style of philosophers and arrogant linguists...as I've done that myself...

However, I understand exactly what you're...

Re: Do old Snare wires need replacing

They stretch a little bit, but the main reason for replacing them is snapped wires. (If you keep your snare wires really tight like me, you can find up to 4 or 5 wires missing at any given time)

Re: Is the reso head on the bass drum effect the sound?

To the untrained ear, most heads will sound the same on the reso side if you know how to tune properly. Most of the differences in sound come from adding ports and experimenting with different types...

Re: Let's Talk Drum Heads (on the snare)

The Genera Dry is the driest head I've ever heard, and a killer crack too.

I would say it's too dry. It was my usual snare head until I tried a Remo CS (the one with the black dot on the...

Re: The "abstract" thread

I want to take the day off and read this new book I bought, but I know I'll end up reading it late tonight and not absorbing any of the info.

Lame thought, but I love the thread idea.

Re: What piece drum kit?

I think a 4-5 piece (excluding snares and other pieces) is the best. It offers a great variety of sounds while keeping the kit small and playable. Tama Superstars are an excellent choice. (More so...

Re: Why does this drummer sit so far back?

Sitting farther back helps for his knees to be at a 45 degree angle. When playing metal, or anything with faster bass patterns, it's important to have your knees at an ideal angle. So my guess is it...

Re: Your favourite snare drum sound

I like a wet, warm crack with lots of ring. Higher than average pitch.

Re: octobans

Ddrum makes a much more affordable alternative. Deccabons I believe they're called? They come in more sizes as well.

Re: What snare?

Considering that the Black Beauty could be the best sounding snare ever made, I would go with that.

Re: Weight Training in Relation to Drumming

Building forearm muscle is a good idea, but it can be done wrong.

If you want to work your forearms without sacrificing speed (actually, to increase speed), you have to work them as a fast switch...

Re: Am I insane?

SC's are very solid, well-built drums. The most expensive kits have a hard time keeping up with SC quality.

I think the SC performers sound better than the Catalina's, but that's because I'd take...

Re: Am I insane?

That's a good decision since you don't seem too attached to your SC's. If you don't like the Catalina's, you won't have a problem finding more SC's, or something equivalent.
