Re: deeeeeeep snares

Yes, they have a new 8" x 14" Black Magic snare drum shown in the 2010 Ludwig catalog. Go to the downloads section of the Ludwig website to get it. I have only seen it listed at one online dealer...

Re: Ludwig Legacy Classic - who knows 'em?

According to Ludwig's new catalog introduced at the end of 2007, they only offer three finishes for the Birch Classic line. There used to be a lot more than that offered before.

Re: vinnie paul snare?

Vinnie Paul has switched drum companies several times over the years.

I think he started out with Remo and then went to Tama, then Pearl after that.

I think that part of the reasons why he went...

Re: Pearl MHX Masters Mahogany Snare Drum

The mahoghany used in this is the high-end African mahoghany — not the cheaper low-end grades.

I have a friend that has one of these snare drums and it is great — plenty of attack and warmth — and...

Re: Ludwig Supraphonic. Snare system!!!

You can go to a hardware store and look for a product called Loctite. (You might want to look it up via web search too.)

Make sure to use one of the lower grades that still allows adjustment — you...

Re: Craigslist

Craigslist can be a real mixed bag. Sometimes there are some great deals to be found.

There also seems to be a lot of folks posting gear on it that don't bother going into enough detail about what...

Re: mapex pro basswood snare?

Mapex has very good quality, that said, this is a lower-rnd product.

You would be better off trying it out in person to see if it meets your needs.

Re: snare drum 1 Million $ question...

Yes, I agree with the above posts concerning cheaper snare drums sounding as good as more expensive models.

The main point is about tuning and adding on new high-quality heads and snare wires....

Re: New vs Classic Supraphonic

I believe that you have one of the extremely rare (carbon) steel shells. I have read a lot of talk about them. But until now no one has ever confirmed that they really exist.

Ludwig went with the...

Re: Endorsement Marketing Lies

I recall seeing him listed several times in late 1980s/early 1990s issues of Modern Drummer magazine as a Wuhan endorser in the "Endorsement News" section.

Like it was mentioned before. I find it...

Re: Gretsch catalina club mod, or catalina maple

The Catalina Maples are definitely NOT made in the USA — the price point is too low for that --- they are not Keller shells either.

Most likely they are made in Taiwan or China.

I have tried a...

Re: New Tama Warlord Snare?

I have to agree about the price tag on this one — in this economy there isn't going to be many takers for it!

However, the main reason for it being so expensive is that raw titanium costs a lot...

Re: Discuss Gretsch 2009's new features

I am glad to see the clear maple finish on the New Classics line. I really didn't like the two previous finishes on them.

Re: opinions wanted regarding different types of brass

Part of it may be that a lot of snare drums that people think are brass shells are actually bronze shells too.

It is documented that Ludwig made Black Beauties with bronze and brass.

Then there...

Re: What Snare is better?

The Autumn Fade finish has been discontinued for 2009 — I know this because I had a set of mixed 3005s/3007s in it that I just sold because of this.

The Force snare drums are a mixed bag. You have...

Re: Drum shell interior finish--Whats the deal!!

Like it has been mentioned above most of the classic American drum companies 50+ years ago used some sort of paint on the inside of their shells, mainly as a way to hide the bad grain patterns of the...

Re: ddrum dominion

I don't have any experience with the kit in question. This might be a special run done for the Musician's Friend/Guitar Center chains.

I have seen two of the ddrum Dominion Maples Pocket kits in...

Re: AVH's New Signature Ludwig Snare

That is a very good deal — considering that the Minimum Advertsied Price is $949.

Could still get one of the Gretsch Rosewood snares for under that though and they have three sizes to choose from.

It should be available soon, along with them updating their website with all of the new stuff that was introduced at the Winter NAMM show.

Re: Chris Adler Signature Snare Drum...Sweet

Mapex doesn't remember it, but they did a signature snare drum for Carmine Appice in the mid-1990s.

I read about it in a Summer NAMM report in Modern Drummer then.

Re: Gretsch catalina club mod, or catalina maple

Yes, you should play both to find out for sure.

Generally speaking, the Catalina Maples are the better of the two.

However, there are several versions of the Catalina Clubs and some of them are...

One other thing: Rob Cook of Rebeats.com (vintage drum books) did try out a show in the Boston area several years ago.

I don't know how they went though. I am guessing that he decided against...

Re: Danny Carey teaser on Sonor's site?!

Like I said in my post above: The price point of this snare drum is to help grow the ranks of drummers using Sonor.

Yes, they could have made it a lot more expensive — but that would have limited...

Re: Pork Pie Black Brass Snare experience?

One of these came in used at my local shop.

Quite a good deal on a black nickel-plated brass shell snare drum — a good way to save big money if you are going for a Black Beauty snare sound and...

Re: Got a New Gretsch Renown For a Great Price!

You did very well — and yes the economy is really bad for those kinds of prices.

Right now is a buyer's paradise — if you have the money — there are great deals to be found everywhere.
