Re: anyone owns a vaughncraft?

There was some mention on GhostNote about this.. it seems they are revamping it and changing things...

I certainly hope they aren't going out of business or anything...

Re: Snare Drum Audio Blind Test

Did mine.

None of of them were that spectacular in my opinion... and most of the clips in each series were indistinguishable...... maybe that's just me, but yea.

Re: Report from the dark side ;)

We all know "good" is as relative a term they come, and I know you are defining "good" here as taken care of and tuned - not trash.. While I agree with you Andy that a big PA system is not going to...

Re: THE CLASSIFIEDS - For Sale / Wanted

Early 70's K Zildjian Ride. Great condition. Normal patina, weight is written on the underside of the bell... otherwise, nothing anomalous to report.

One the great early Canadian K's - sizing up...

Re: Snare on 1 and 3?

Yes I see your point haha

From the way he is describing it (fast/rodeo/yee haw/dance tune), it sounds as if maybe in he needs to plays a fast country beat, like the train beat on On the Road Again...

Re: Snare on 1 and 3?

Bell Bottom Blues ftw :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKAYGVIkbok&feature=kp

Snare on 1&3 is rare, and that's generous. From many points of view, its something you simply don't do. As a...

Re: Drum Dial tuning

Drum Dials are really useful for putting on fresh heads.. The first couple turns can be funky and it helps to check the tension every half turn so you know that the head is going on straight.

I...

Re: Buying and Selling - Used drums/cymbals?

There is a lot of information out there and a lot of knowledgeable buyers and sellers. Most sellers know what they have, and most buyers know what they want, and both parties know the going rate.

Re: Funky Buddy

I don't think its any secret that funk/soul jazz is out of Buddy's element. His solo here is certainly an example of that.

But his groove rocked- I disagree with pretty much everything you said...

Re: Keller offers new line of shells

The 5 ply Magnum shells are pretty much the same thickness as Keller's standard 8 ply shell.

I would like to replace all the shells on my kits with these 5 ply shells. I'm excited.

Re: The worst drum /cymbal purchase you ever made

I bought a 6" splash. Yes, 6". It was Sabian B8 Pro, haha.

It sounded like shit, and I knew that very well when I bought it.

But I was 16 and I thought it was cool..

Worst $90 I ever spent.

Re: Posture

I agree. Buddy rich comes to my mind as one who had a very slumpy torso while he played... it makes no difference.

Re: Craviotto 6.5x14 solid (Found at Pawn Shop)

I would definitely say its cherry. Cherry darkens over time as well, so if you could decipher the year of manufacture, that could explain the darker color.

Re: Is this a shuffle, shufflie or neither?

I'd say yes it is a shuffle.

Good job adding the left foot, it sounds good, and could be a helluva lot sloppier :)

Re: Musicality

In my mind its not a sliding scale of someone's better or more musical than someone else, its more of you're either being musical or your not.

Elvin Jones, Max Roach, and Steve Gadd are all...

Re: THE CLASSIFIEDS - For Sale / Wanted

I've got a gorgeous Late 1950's 22" Zildjian A Ride that needs a new home. Beautiful cymbal, nice thin weight, and it has some signs of hand hammering around the edges. It weighs 2378 grams. It...

Re: thoughts on aluminum

You really can't go wrong with Supras. Pitting isn't something you'll have to worry about for decades, plus the severity varies from drum to drum, so on some, it really not noticable. You can always...

Re: Got called for a Session, YAY! Gear Upgrade?

Yes, I could get a vintage or used A for cheap, but I loath the old A design, and vintage A's are hit and miss with me, especially at medium weights and up.

The new A design is really the...

I'm very sad to hear about this tumor for the first time.

I'm glad (and inspired) however that you have been able to deal with this so elegantly and creatively.

Great idea using the double...

Re: Got called for a Session, YAY! Gear Upgrade?

Its probably different people, depending on what kind of ride you are used to. I'm used to soft playing, washy rides. So when I'm on a heavy or a super dry, it throws me off.

Hats, crashes, toms,...

Re: Got called for a Session, YAY! Gear Upgrade?

I'm leaning toward the ride. I've got to keep that Wide Ride healthy. I'll be able to use the A when I need the projection and where I can sacrifice the tone.

Plus, I can't be using it on every...
