Re: What if you unwittingly stole someones gig?

You were called and responded. Anything else is on the band, not you. If they are willing/wanting to replace the drummer it will be you or someone. If you need/want the work, it's better you than...

Re: Ever forgotten your hihat clutch?

You can't forget or lose it if you don't remove it.

Re: Humbling Experience

It's certainly a step up from 5 gal. buckets. Plus he's actually out playing and not typing on the internet like I am right now.

Re: How To Promote Self For Future Opportunities ?

What Jon said. Play around as much as possible - open mics, multi band events..... Pass out your information/business cards and let band members know that you're available to fill in whenever...

Re: Left handed question

Glad you corrected yourself. There's no reason to play backwards if you're left-handed. I can play both ways but, as a lefty, I play left-handed without thinking but have to "adapt" for a few songs...

Re: Tell me about this

To me - the only way to tell if it's any good is - to beat on it. Then . . . let us know.

Welcome to the group. After 40 years I believe you should have a grasp of what's appropriate and sound good. Play what you like.

Ditto. I don't see that working for him into his later years.

Re: Great car for a drummer

This pretty much sums it up. Certainly any mid-size car and up will do. There are cars of every size in every price range. When I started traveling the college circuit in the late 70's, I had a...

Re: suggestions for best rods and brushes

Like most things in music - there is no best. There is what works for you. I suggest going down to your local drum shop (you know, the place you support and spend your money) and test out some...

Re: Ludwig bass mounts

No bias. I think it sounds about right. I would certainly go to my local drum shop and sit behind a couple of different set ups and see what worked for me.
I wouldn't begin to tell you what...

Re: Shoes and Gloves

For shoes try some soft soled ones and firm soled. I play in whatever works with what I'm wearing. Sometimes basketball shoes. Sometimes auto racing shoes (firm sole). I've played in five-toed...

Re: I was told I don't play loud enough...

Unless you've been criticized about something other than your volume - I would mic the kit. Sounds like it's time. With a 7-piece band you're likely to need mic's anyway. Leave your kit the same...

Re: Tuning Drums for Audition

Hmmm. I would say to get your drums tuned where they are optimized for your playing. Once done, leave them there. Are you not confident in your current tuning?

Re: Musicians Union?

As Bermuda stated residuals are what keeps you going after you've been working for 20+ years and you've started to semi-retire or slow down. It's great to get union checks in the mail for past work.

Re: Do you vacialte? I do a lot...

Changing styles is just part of being a good musician. To me, it doesn't mean you're vacillating or indecisive. Just creative and capable. I can go from a rock gig straight to a blues/jazz or...

Re: Cost to ship a kit?

There's a big difference between what you are charged in shipping to have drums shipped to you and what you pay to ship drums. Depending on how many boxes you ship expect $80 - $120 to ship drums in...

Re: What songs do you really like the drumming on?

You guys much be too young. Probably because it was the first REAL solo I learned keeps it special to me. One of the longest solos remains my favorite - Iron Butterfly's In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida.

Re: Do my drums grow with me?

You're body, back, arms and legs need to be properly aligned and comfortable. You will need to adjust your throne, drums and cymbals as you change technique and grow. Your drums, however, will not...

Re: Hey Lefty Drummers

No. Since I've been left-handed all my life so I don't let other's effect my life. Play, don't play, set it up how you like... It's something you have to embrace. Use your own equipment or be ready...
