Re: Aynsley Dunbar

Excellent drummer! I loved his work with Zappa and I especially loved the first Aynsley Dunbar Retaliation album. His solo on "Mutiny" is always fun to listen to. Didn't he play with John Mayall as...

Re: Phil Ehart

Karl,I think the gong in your link might very well be the Phil Ehart gong as well. I'd forgotten about that one. Anyway,it's a Ufip and the drummer with PFM also used a Ufip.Incredibly heavy gongs as...

Re: Phil Ehart

Karl,I believe the gong that Phil used in the 1970s was a custom-made Zildjian. I used to have a Zildjian catalogue at that time and it had several odd gongs that Zildjian no longer makes. In fact I...

Re: Barriemore Barlow

Yes,and the Conundrum solo is only the tip of the arrow as to what this guy is really capable of. Unfortunately,I never got the chance to see Tull during their Prog-Rock heyday, but I do have a nice...

Re: Phil Ehart

Resguy,I can agree with much of what you are saying. I don't think Phil's "fills" are so much "weak" as they are just "commonplace," meaning that they do not stand out or blaze across the music the...

Re: Phil Collins

I love practicing along with Phil Collins on the Genesis CDs Selling England By The Pound,Foxtrot,Trick Of The Tail and Wind And Wuthering; I also like playing along with the odd songs like Twilight...

Re: 13x9 tuning tip wanted

Ironically,my 9 X 13 rack tom is the only good sounding drum on my entire kit. Now,if I can only get my 14 X 14 and 16 X 16 toms to sound good,I'd be thrilled.

Re: Chester Thompson

In the 1980s the Paiste Cymbal Company released a series of plastic discs featuring a minute or two from select Paiste Artists demonstrating their current cymbal set-ups. Chester Thompson was...

Re: Cozy Powell

I loved the 1977 Rainbow Live LP. Cozy has such great sound and presence on that disc. It's too bad that they chose to cut out his drum solo from Still I'm Sad; maybe a future re-release of this...

Re: Best drumming album of all time?

Best Drumming album of All Time? There are so many that I couldn't even begin to guess: everything from Led Zeppelin to Buddy Rich. Since I have no real favourite,I'll just list some favoured Artists...

Re: Mitch Mitchell

If it weren't for Mitch Mitchell,I wouldn't even be playing the drums. His work on the first three Hendrix albums is unsurpassed. My favourite Mitchell songs are Third Stone From The Sun,1983 (A Merman...

Re: Tommy Aldridge

I remember Tommy Aldridge from Cal Jam in 1974.B.O.A were on the bill and Tommy was clearly the best musician in that band.He certainly held his own on a bill that also included the likes of Ian...

Re: Ian Paice

Ian is the man who made me actually take up the drums instead of just screwing about with them.I've been a fan since The Shades Of Deep Purple LP was released in 1968.Just listen to "Mandrake Root"...

Re: Bill Bruford

There are so many great Bruford moments that the earth can barely contain them.Just when you were expecting an explosive solo,Bill gives you silence and afew well-chosen notes, and conversely, when you...
