Re: So what's up with Ludwig 2014

Excited to hear more! Only 31 drum kits? I think that's probably double what my local Guitar Center has in stock...lol. It'd be really cool to see a photo of all of them together.

Re: So what's up with Ludwig 2014

That's very intriguing! Looks like a Sonor finish I've seen floating around. Must know more!

Re: New Gear From Gretsch - 2014

Yeah, man! I like the looks of that thing! I just picked up a USA cast aluminum and it's unreal...now I think I need a Ferrone, too.

Love the new 2014 badges on everything, too.

Re: Sold all my drums..now what?

I own a Renown kit and have a used (like new) Brooklyn kit coming on Thursday. I got an amazing deal through a guy on eBay...hundreds cheaper than new, similar-sized Renowns. I consider them both...

Re: New for 2014: Gretsch Marquee series

Yep, looks like Renown with cheaper finish and hoops. Sounds like the exact same shell and hardware (aside from hoops.) Aside from that nasty looking salmon finish, they look great! I bet they...

Re: Which aluminum drum?

I had the Sensitone 6.5"...it's an *awesome* drum. I miss it, I really wish I hadn't sold it. I didn't like the hoops so much though...pearl's 2.3mm hoops seem to have a really deep profile and are...

Re: Gretsch Renown 2013 - Shell Composition Change?

I don't look at it like that, I guess. I don't have to buy their products...it's voluntary. The marketing shows a difference so the choice is mine. Gretsch makes great products and makes a lot of...

Re: Gretsch Renown 2013 - Shell Composition Change?

Thanks! I searched but must have missed that one.

Sounds like the consensus is; The new RN-1 shells are different, indeed. It'd be nice if a Gretsch rep or dealer could chime in on this and...

Gretsch Renown 2013 - Shell Composition Change?

...another Renown question for you Gretsch fanatics out there.

I've noticed a curious difference in the marketing between old Renowns (prior to 2013) and how they're describing the new RN-1...

Re: I just acquired this 1950 Gretsch Bop Kit

SWEET! Nice choice on the non-invasive Atlas hardware. When can we hear it!? :)

Re: Which aluminum drum?

I just bought one of these...should be here by next Wed. I'm happy I found a 2013 w/ a round badge and key-screws instead of flatheads, on the strainer.

I bought it after researching a bunch of...

Gretsch Renown 2013 - Matte White. Foolish for the road?

I really dig this finish and love white drums. The obvious concern is; Is it going to collect and show every fingerprint, smudge, ding, dent, and fart? Makes me wish it was a lacquer finish. I...

Re: Gretsch vs Others

I think that's a problem we all have...no drums have a mystical power to suddenly beef up your chops. Plus, if it sounds like you, it just means you have a distinct style...and that's an...

Re: Gretsch vs Others

Man, I dunno. Different strokes I guess. I can't tell the difference between USA Custom, New Classic, or Renowns. I've played all 3...and have watched video comparisons on YouTube. You have some...

Re: How do you use 4-Way Coordination by Dahlgren and Fine?

This is probably my favorite book to work out of. I use it pretty much everyday. I've hopped around and learned the patterns that caught my eye and I review them occasionally. I can literally feel...

Re: Creative Freedom

Yep, my practice spot, my PA, my idea to put a new band together. They both have more experience than I do, but they don't play beyond my level, per se. I think the guitarist *did* want to...

Re: Creative Freedom

That's a great point. I do tend to "jump in" if I really dig the music and the people seem friendly, and a connection has been made. I know when someone likes what I'm doing too, even if it's...

Re: Creative Freedom

I did start this, technically. I put the ad on Craigslist and the guitarist responded. He already knew the bassist and reeled him in. The guitarist is writing most of the music and the bassist has...

Creative Freedom

I'm sure this has been discussed, in some form or another, but here's my dead horse.

I'm a relative newbie, I've only been playing for about 6 yrs. I've taken about 4 yrs. of regular lessons with...
