Re: Can you read sheet music?

Not being able to read music doesn't translate to winging it. Have a good ear, experience, and understand theory and you're golden. As a guitarist in a previous band I would listen to the drum parts...

Re: Band leaders

Never had a leader per se. As one of two guitarists I would say I probably made the most suggestions. At my drummer's request I would give a lot of input on his drum mix in the studio and live....

Re: My hands are unbelievably slow

Are you sure those are singles? I wouldn't do it with singles.

The first two strokes could be a double stroke.
It's a repeating 5 note pattern (three times). Do a double stroke (right right)...

Re: My personal list of rock and roll's top cowbell moments

Would definately win the "Less cowbell!" award. It's also brilliantly placed and has a nice syncopated feel to it.

Re: Left Foot in the "Floating Double Bass" Technique

Play Judas Priest "Rapid Fire" with your left foot a few times. It should develop a lot of feel in your left ankle and teach it to move like your right.

Re: Reprogramming foot motion - help

I would alternate nonstop between slow and fast singles, playing each for a single bar.

The singles' bar workout lol.

Re: for sale - east coast

Has it occured to you that you don't HAVE to read threads that cause you pain? Don't like it? Don't read it, let alone post in it. I clicked on the thread to see why someone was selling the East...

Re: Last piece of gear you forgot?

Drove almost 100 miles for a first-time jam with a drummer and showed up with my guitar, half stack, pedals, and NO guitar cord.

Re: I don't like my drumming . . . .

Actually I'm not saying I overplay, it's more like I do mindless fills which are actually more simplistic than incorporating effect cymbals for example. I'm actually much busier with fewer toms, and...

Re: Starting Back At The Basics Is Very Humbling

I'm illiterate regarding the more technical rudiments. I mean, I can play them, I just haven't learned to use them musically. I now consider myself a hack until I get a grip on those (incorporating...

I don't like my drumming . . . .

. . . when I expand the toms setup beyond two rack toms and a pair of floors.
I don't like the sound of tom rolls and I robotically tend to do that when the additional tom(s) are present. It's like...

Re: What was the first concert you went to????

Well, it was supposed to be Ozzy in 1982 but they cancelled due to Rhoads' plane crash.

Original line up was Ozzy, Foreigner and UFO.
Pat Travers band stepped in for Ozzy. I really enjoyed UFO.

Re: This will be my standard reply from now on

I dunno, it depends who's asking those questions and in what context. They aren't questions a beginner should be agonizing over, which they sometimes ask as if within the answer lies the secrets to...

Re: Why the hate? (Lars Ulrich)

Well, when I said "was" what I was trying to say was that there was a time when his playing was really good. Prior to the black album.

Re: Double Bass Drum Futility

If this doesn't answer those questions, nothing will. Even if you don't like, be sure to listen at least up to 1:10 for the nice transition.
