Re: 1970's Vintage Original Staccato 8 piece "Thunderhorn" Drum

Staccato is owned by an old friend of mine and at the time he shut down, drummer Chris Slade was partners with him. The band Payolas and the song Eyes of a Stranger showcases these drums very well....

Re: Post your Greatest Weakness

My ability to concentrate for long periods of time while learning complex drumming parts. Simple short repetitive patterns I can practice for hours with no brain meltdown. But more complex things, my...

Re: Is live music dead?

I totally agree Steve B.
The sad reality is that eventually, the guys playing for free will eventually come to the realization, ". We deserve to get paid a fair rate for what we do". The novelty...

Re: I think everyone would benefit from building one. . .

When I read the first post, I was thinking, wow, you learned all all that from one Keller shell build? Nice snares and I agree, building drums really opens up your mind to what is really out there,...

I have seen some really bad drummers, but they had better gigs than me.

Re: Many cymbals yes, but many snares?

I am a snare junkie, but I used to have a big cymbal obsession too. I still love hand picking my cymbals and am very meticulous in picking them for tone. It just seems to kill the magic of that when...

Re: Post your youth pics here.

The leather tie era. I forgot about those, I had white, red and black.

Re: The dream vs. reality.

I always thought because wood was organic, that sawdust was harmless. But what I have read, sawdust, any sawdust species and lungs do not go well together. Downright dangerous from what info I have...

Re: Satellite Dish Anyone?

With a load of disco ball type mirrors, that would make one hell of a parabolic heat ray machine.

Re: How many of you are playing for tips?

Living in an area where a $5 cover charge is enough deterrent for people to go elsewhere, working for tips would to me be an insult. A guitarist friend of mine was in Nashville and met some guys from...

Re: DW news

The addition of fine tune adjusters on the snare frame may help, but My experience with those designs is a fail. I tried the rhythm tech on several snares, and I think it is still in a drawer in my...

Re: Satellite Dish Anyone?

If you make a mistake in a song, you can use it as an excuse. "Sorry, I lost signal".

Re: My new Dunnett maple/rosewood monoply!

The butt plate is crooked, I guess that detail was not given attention.

Re: Post your youth pics here.

That is pretty scrawny. I was about 130 pounds and 5'10".
I used to eats big meals 4-5 times a day and drink carb and protein shakes, and still couldn't gain weight, took me til 40 to break the 150...

Re: Post your youth pics here.

A little different, although I played and practiced all day everyday, I also seem to have a collection showing how I could never leave a drum intact and stock.
Here I am taking a set of early 70's...

Re: DW aquires Gretsch and Latin Percussion...

I actually agree with this statement. The original line, although over hyped, over endorsed and consequently, over priced, did sound way superior to what I have come across lately.
They laid waste...

Re: Carmine Appice Lobbies For Led Zeppelin Drum Spot

Carmine is reminding me of the Wailin Smash videos. Hey Robin Trower, if you are listening, give me a call. ROTF LMAO.
They can both audition for the Stones Steel Wheelchair Tour.

C'mon you old...

Re: acrylic wood hybrid (3rd post)

Send him to Ghostnote, hmmmm, thanks Andy.
Well, I guess we could have some fun with him, as long as he pays the $20 for a drum labs membership before we have our way with him.

Re: Diy Acrylic Wood Hybrid HELP!!

OK, you have no clue, and claiming you are building a $10,000 custom kit is like a billboard proclaiming this.

If I were to invest $10,000 while building a kit, I am sure I could do a cast cymbal...

Re: anybody know whats going on with Vaughncraft?

The repaired re-ring in this picture will probably play and survive just fine, I would be more concerned that it is two steam bent shells glued together to make one. I think I prefer my solid shells...

Why not mention him by name? I have bought some parts and have chatted back and forth through emails with him. He seems like a down to earth good dude. And his snare drums are some of the best...

I am intrigued Blackduck. post up some video and share.
In the 80's, I like probably hundreds of others, lusted over the black double bass resonator kit Premier had in their catalogue. Unfortunately...

A huge subject that would be really hard to define in a simple forum post.
para diddle Pete. I love those two snare drums. Especially the first with the little hotel logo.
Personally I will only...
