Re: would you buy a ludwig accent drum set...

I dunno, man. You ask a question, get a resounding answer (piles of people telling you to buy the Ludwig, because plenty of awesome reasons). Then you ignore the answer you got. If you were going to...

Re: Ideal 2 Floor Tom Sizes?

Seeing as Buddy used his second 16 as a trap tray, it's probably pointless to use him as an example. If all it's doing is holding up your Scotch, a towel, and a pair of brushes, it doesn't matter how...

Re: would you buy a ludwig accent drum set...

I'm assuming you'd not use the matching snare, and chances are the bass heads are serviceable, so you're only really replacing the tom batter heads. You can get a set of Evans G2 coated 10, 12, and...

Re: I'm a jaded music industry guy

I think there's a lot more intricacy you can bring out from a modern battery ensemble. The very dry, very defined nature of the instruments means you can realize music you just can't get from the...

Re: I'm a jaded music industry guy

Meh. Different strokes. (Har. See what I did there?)

The old stuff - and I came up in the late 80s and early 90s - just sounds tubby and muddy. I remember the challenge of transition, where the...

Re: I'm a jaded music industry guy

...which goes back to what Larry wrote: When you've got 12 of them playing at once, the playing has to be awesome and TIGHT, or else it sounds like a truckload of Wuhan china cymbals thrown over a...

Re: I'm a jaded music industry guy

Yes, it's a drum. It's a drum & bugle corps snare. To play one IS like playing on a tabletop. In fact, they can injure you if you're not careful.

Re: Best drums under $1500?

Yeah. For $1500 you can make yourself a pretty fine Keller kit - think SJC - from http://www.amdrumparts.com/ or http://www.drumfactorydirect.com/

That's they way I'm going on my next kit.

Re: Best drums under $1500?

You should be able to order some add-ons from a Mapex dealer. For example, I can still get a 14" floor tom for my Meridian Maple, which has been out of production for several years now.

I note...

Re: Am I the ONLY guy that likes the sound of poplar drums?

Oh, god, tell me about it.

The last studio work I did was on a DW Performance. It had the original heads on them. The snare head was knackered, the tom heads had more tape and paper towel visible...

Re: Outdoor Shows - Head and Humidity

I just came from St Croix, US Virgin Islands. Every gig is an outdoor gig. Every gig is hot. Every gig that starts before 6PM is sunny (350 days of full sun per year).

Yeah, I've been there. ;-)

Re: Am I the ONLY guy that likes the sound of poplar drums?

I love poplar "entry-level" kits. I just got a very nice maple kit a month ago (and I'm very much in love with it), but I'm trolling Craigslist for a cheap, poplar entry-level kit. It beggars belief,...

Re: Why Musicians DON'T Deserve to Get Paid

I did, and I've been thoroughly enjoying the frantic self-congratulatory whining which has resulted therefrom. Perhaps more so.

It's like they didn't get enough trophies when they played soccer...

Re: Info on this vintage Sonor kit?

I'm betting those bolt caps are anchoring a plate or some such on the inside of the shell to reinforce the cymbal and tom mounting points.

Stolen gear prevention tool?

This just flashed past me on Facebook. Maybe it's useful? I know there are a lot of folks on here who have suffered gear loss to theft.

Re: The kind of night that makes you wonder why you even bother

Erberderber, I'd have been out of there immediately, were I in your shoes. The day job takes precedence, for one thing. For another, even if your living is music, it's not your job to cover the...

Re: Advice please?

I don't care if they pay me $1000 per week and buy me my dream instrument. I wouldn't go NEAR one of those places.

I have a version of that drum direct from WorldMax (what you have is a WorldMax drum with Pork Pie's logo on it). It is indeed a killer instrument. Congrats!

Strike up one more for the Heathen Minority (say, can we get t-shirts? I want a t-shirt).

There is as little point in total abstinence as there is in getting verschnickered. Unless, of course,...

Re: 76' Vistalites $$$ back then?

I can't find a kit in those sizes in the 1976 catalogs available at Drum Archive. I *did* find a 1973 Vistalite price list (http://www.drumarchive.com/ludwig/1973_LUDWIG_Vistalite_price.pdf) which...

Re: Mystery drums

No, I think they're wing-badge Cabrias. ;-)

Before you dismiss that as too flippant, read on.

Premier used several types of badge on Cabrias, as well as lots of different nomenclature. It's...
