Re: My speed has stalled

I think is primarily about technique (besides practice). Using the rebound of the stick, the Moeller technique and learning to use your fingers will increase your speed exponentially. You can...

Re: The Best Drummer in the World

The best drummer in the world is probably some kid in Peoria who no one ever heard of (and will likely never hear of unless he gets a one in a zillion lucky break).

Bit of a stretch I think- like the Belafonte song though.

Re: No more jam sessions for me. I'm done

Funny, I am the exact opposite. I feel very comfortable improvising, playing on ideas and interacting with others when jamming but I feel somewhat uncomfortable and "tight" when playing a cover or a...

Re: Other songs that sound like other songs

Radiohead “Creep,” and The Hollies’ song “The Air That I Breathe." They won a lawsuit to boot.

simulating electronic sounds on the drums

Hi- I have a House/D&B gig coming up. Anyone have cool ideas for simulating electronic or just interesting sounds with an acoustic kit that would fit well with this type of music (think JoJo Mayer)....

Re: Rant: Who's in charge at Gibraltar??

I have the gibraltar quick release too. The only thing that bugs me about it is the threads where the cymbal goes and sometimes I have a hell of a time getting the quick release to release quickly.

Re: Rant: Who's in charge at Gibraltar??

Gibraltar's model is to make everything and make it cheap. They do make everything though.

I have spent a fortune buying different clutches (maybe an exaggeration- I have 5 clutches) and I have...

Re: Aluminum Die Cast Hoops

OK- Yamaha parts will sell them, but for $150 each- crazy!

Will have to wait on ebay I suppose. Saw a snare side on ebay for a somewhat reasonable price but really want both.

Aluminum Die Cast Hoops

Anyone know where I can find a pair of 14" 10-hole aluminum die cast hoops. I know Yamaha makes them, but I cannot find them anywhere.

I think they would go swell on my new 6.5" acrolite! Thanks.

Re: Band rehearsal in a small space

Have rehearsed in plenty of small rooms- biggest problem is sound cancellation- the waves of sound bouncing off the walls cancel each other out and you get white noise or have to turn up super loud...

Re: Crescent cymbals... AKA Screw all you meaningless peons?

I think you got it!- they are entitled to do whatever they want and I for one don't really care who endorses their product or if they think I am worthy. But their attitude is bad business and they...

Re: Crescent cymbals... AKA Screw all you meaningless peons?

I agree- it is awkward to ask for an endorsement deal (or a buyback) and certainly inappropriate to demand one. Nonetheless, I wouldn't tell a job applicant: "some employers might hire uneducated...

Re: Crescent cymbals... AKA Screw all you meaningless peons?

The customer/client is king. Same applies when selling a car, interviewing job applicants, treating a patient, or at the bar.

Imagine if a newby drinker asked a bartender for a buyback and the...

Re: Crescent cymbals... AKA Screw all you meaningless peons?

Note to Crescent- hire someone with a brain to do public relations.

I get their point - they do not want to give endorsement deals to everyone (as some companies do just to drum up sales to...

Re: Do you take cymbals/bass-pedal to a venue that have a drumkit?

I most often bring cymbals and pedal to gigs as that is standard around here. I also bring the same to the rehearsal/recording studio.

I am curious what other stuff people bring (other than...

Re: Brian Blade is in my top five all time jazz drummers

Nistor often gets called on by Danger Mouse - I suspect he is the favorite studio drummer.

In fact, not only do I refer to him as "the Danger Mouse drummer," sometimes I just refer to him as "...

Re: Brian Blade is in my top five all time jazz drummers

I...
