Re: First Ludwig Snare

Congrats on the snare.
I have one like it and it's a great one.

Ludwig snare wires sound nice, no problem with them.

I use Canopus wires on ALL my snares. They just sound better to me, and the...

Re: aluminum DW or Ludwig snare?

Tubes make it slightly more open sounding, but it depends on how YOU tune up the drum.
If you want an open sound, get the 1.6 thickness hoops. That will make more difference in sound than tubes or...

It likely didn't catch on in the real world because of cost, hauling it, board space, system limitations, stage space....

It looked kinda cool, but the PA systems out these days can push out those...

Re: Hi-hat Stand and Snare Stand Inquiry

The top hi hat cymbal is just tightened up too much.
If you like the way it sounds that way, it's OK, but "usually" there is some play in the top cymbal. You can have them as loose as you want if...

Re: I can't buy a high end snare drum

When I got my Brass 6.5 BB's they weren't in the $799 list range yet. Probably $599 list range--maybe '02 & '04.

My '89 Bronze 6.5 BB came with the Ludwig UFO die cast hoops and was only $355, so...

Re: A re-statement of the obvious

#1 asked question: What's the lightest hardware available now? haha!

I agree with Smoke too.

I haven't been on in quite a while, but it's nice to return and find it still a cool...

Re: My BumWrap Journey. Rewrapping 35+ Year old Pearl Exports

That's a great job and a really nice finish choice.

Re: Retro Drum Pics

That kit is pretty dang sweet!

I play on a Breakbeat kit at one rehearsal site, and it's a fun kit to play.
I haven't played a bass drum smaller than a 16 though.

Nice pics also :-)

Hiya gang! Great purchases showing up! Wish there was "like" button haha! That was talked about a years ago...

I haven't really been on in a while...a couple years probably! I'm going to change...

Re: Your Moment of Glory

The time Simon Phillips saw me, and came right off the Toto bus to shake my hand and tell me how much he enjoyed my playing and the sound of my drums.

That was pretty awesome :-)

Re: Bent Sweet Ride - How Much Would You Pay?

I just got a cymbal at cost because of a ding in the edge.
It was from my regular shop that I have gone to for about 40 years tho.
GC is like the K Mart of music stores (IMO) and I doubt the...

Re: Do you have a piece of equipment that you've used since day 1 and still use it regularly?

My Pearl Eliminator/Redline pedals have been used since the day I bought them. No issues whatsoever.

Beato Bags--Cymbal, hardware and stick bags. FANTASTIC.

Re: Is this crazy?

I don't really adjust anything either.

I might tweak the snare a little to suit my mood.
Unless one lug is out from moving around or sitting in my vehicle all day before doing load in, they stay...

Re: Deep bass drums

The total sound of the drum is nicer.
The balance of attack, and clear tone. The whole drum is off the floor so there is nothing much to impede the shell from giving all it can.
The lift is...

Re: The 14x12 Floor Tom

I have a 12 (depth)x14(diam) floor tom.
I like it a lot. For me it's a little beefier sound than a 14x14 because of how I play and tension it.
It's quicker and fits the type of sound I like more...

Re: Shell Bank

At one point I had a shell bank. It's a nice thing to be able to have.

I ended up with few bass drums, toms from 12-18 with a couple the same size depending on the set up I wanted.
I really...

Re: Deep bass drums

Yes it fits under the drum and the shell rest on it.
The spurs have to be extended, but that's no big deal.
I actually attached it to my drum rug so I can just put the legs in the spiked spots and...

Re: Deep bass drums

I've owned 14x20 up to 20x28.
I play off of the head.

The feel between shorter to deeper bass drums as far as "slow/sluggish" is something I can feel between the 24's more than the 26's.

Re: Worst expensive snare you've ever owned?

The worst expensive snare I've owned was a 6.5 Tama Artwood snare.
It had die cast hoops, extended wires, pretty maple shell....and sounded like a wet rag.
No matter what I did with this drum, it...

Re: Are Ludwigs "just too darn loud?"

The thicker the shell, the more projection is one way to gage.

The models you listed aren't going to be "quiet", but aren't going to take your head off either.

I have Ludwig (Super Classic 4...
