Re: DW Collector's or Not?

Interesting info re. the seam. My drum has a seam that is straight up and down, so perhaps, given that it was made in very early 1997, that it is a Keller shell made just prior to DW switching over...

Re: DW Collector's or Not?

1997 is when they switched to in-house production.

DW Collector's or Not?

What is the history of DW Collector's Series? I have a 1997 DW snare with the black and silver badge that says "DW Drums - Handcrafted Since 1972 - All Maple Shell - Made in USA". It is a DW-made...

1997 DW Maple Snare

Thinning out my drum collection, and I may sell an old DW snare, but not sure what to ask for it. Nothing greedy, just a reasonable price. It is a 1997 DW snare, maple shell with re-rings. I...

Re: Older DW Toms w/out an STM Mount?

Interesting. I haven't looked at these drums yet, but the seller claims it's a factory job. That was probably right around the time period when "RIM-style" mounts were becoming standard issue on...

Re: extremely annoying snare buzz?

Try tuning the toms to a different frequency. There's probably one tom in particular that causes the most buzz. But honestly, trying to eliminate all snare buzz is pretty much impossible, and...

Re: Older DW Toms w/out an STM Mount?

That's what I was originally thinking, but after doing some research I came across Joe Morello's DW kit from the early 90's currently for sale at Maxwell Drums. The photos show these same type of...

Older DW Toms w/out an STM Mount?

I recently saw a set of DW toms for sale which have no STM mount. Instead, they have the mounting bracket attached directly to the shell. Has anyone ever seen this on DW drums before? I can tell...

I've used Precision Drum to have edges recut. Give them a call to get a quote including return shipping.

Re: Cleaning/ Restoring super sensitive snare

I have an early 1980s Super Sensitive and parts are readily available. Check out this catalog, particularly p. 41 for the SS strainer parts:

Re: 80's Yamaha Kit Identification URGENT!

I think those are the Yamaha DP series. Made in Taiwan by a third party, that made identical kits for other companies. For example, the Taiwan-made Rogers R-380 from the early 1980s looks the same...

Yamaha "Vintage Series" snare drums?

Does anyone have thoughts on or experience with these Yamaha Vintage Series snares? They look pretty interesting to me, 4-ply maple shell with re-rings for a woody, vintage sound.

Re: whats so good about supraphonics?

I have a late 70s Super Sensitive. Same shell as the Supraphonic, but a different strainer. The SS strainer is quite fiddly and has lots of parts that can, and do break, but the parts are readily...

Re: Jazz bass drum

I agree with Gruntersdad that converting an 18x16 floor tom is an easy way to go. Pearl makes the Jungle Jig conversion kit for this purpose.

But, I did see this Gretsch Catalina BD on Ebay just...

Re: DW Performance Series

I'll have to check that out - thanks. If you look at the Performance series on the Musicians Friend site, they show the 20" kick, but it says you have to buy it as part of a kit, and then if you try...

Re: DW Performance Series

This is an interesting move by DW. Most will recall that the high-end PDPs (the LX Series) were originally available only as pre-configured shell packs, but then with the advent of the Platinum...

Re: Gretsch Catalina Club '64 Reissue

Not sure if you live near a Guitar Center store, but a couple of the GC stores in my area had them. The store manager may cut you a deal just to move it off the floor, especially if it's been...

Re: floor tom to bass drum conversion...most efficient way?

I use the Pearl Jungle Jig converter for a small kit I made for my kids using a 16x16 FT as the BD. It works great. Also, you do need the ISS mount they refer to, unless you already have Pearl...

Re: Bass Drum Size and fitting in Car

This thread reminds of when I was in college playing in a band. I drove a 1980 Honda Civic Hatchback at the time, and I would fit a full 5-piece Tama kit in the back with the seats folded down (we...

Re: PDP Platinum second thoughts

That 18 inch floor tom is going to resonate due to its size. You could try tuning it very low (just above wrinkled), but then the interval with the rack toms will be enormous. Is that right that...
