Re: Electric kit over Acoustic for improvement?

I think that if you go between an acoustic and an electric kit regularly then you will be fine. So if you play on an acoustic kit say once every week or so then you'll be ok, that's what I do. Just...

Re: Recommend some good modern jazz

Bohren & der Club of Gore are an excellent ambient jazz group, check out their album Black Earth, it's cool as.

Another chilled jazz group is the Hidden Orchestra, they use two drummers and flit...

Re: Random days your playing sucks

Yeah for sure, I'm 99% sure that it is down to your state of mind more than anything else.

Often when I have a top notch session the next one will be awful...because I'm expecting to be as good...

Re: Glasvegas - Terrible band

Nah I can understand, it can be annoying when a band you really don't like makes it big. I try not to dwell on it too much myself though, there are too many awful bands making shed loads of money out...

Re: Stupid Thread 1 - How Much Drink

Yep same here Frost, I drink quite a lot often so I guess I'm just hardened to it. Does depend on whether I've had food or not though.

Bizarrely enough I sound posh and my enunciation improves...

Re: Do you need to practice EVERY day to get better/faster?

I think all depends on where you want to go with an instrument. I can sightread, but I have never had to actually use it in a practical situation, and I'm pretty sure that I never will because I will...

Re: do endurance runs cripple top speed?

Yah very true, you do have to push the limit. I spend a lot of my practice time doing endurance runs in a similar manner, but I also spend a small amount of time pushing my speed boundaries. This...

Re: do endurance runs cripple top speed?

Yeah my experience tells me that endurance runs are very effective for increasing top speed, did he give any reasoning as to how he came to that conclusion?

Re: John Longstreth

He's a legend for sure. I love the intricate cymbal and hat work on the most recent origin album, he makes his blasts sound interesting unlike a lot of metal drummers.

Re: Omnium Gatherum new album and video

Fantastic track, and a definite improvement over previous albums. I love the melodies in the slower sections, this is exactly the sort of Melodic Death Metal that I like. Nice work!

Re: bass drum ankle motion with heel-up

I could do with some of these myself. At the moment I practice playing heel down quite a lot to try and train my ankles, just singles mostly. Then I try to play slowly and use my ankles whilst...

Re: Hardcore Drumming 101

The bands listed seem to be either some form of screamo/emo or metalcore. I wouldn't call them hardcore, there part of the myriad of 'hardcore mixed with metal' styles that have been quite popular in...

Re: Dream Theater's new drummer position: Who should it be?

I think Charlie Zeleny of Behold the Arctopus might be gunning for the job, ever since Mike quit he's posted some very well done Dream Theatre covers on youtube. I think he'd be a great fit.
