Re: Are DW drums still cool?

I actually believe DW has influenced QC at Gretsch.

First thing they did was buy them a new wrapping machine.

I remember when I started playing and was looking a Gretsch. There were all sorts...

Re: I hate that Song!!

If you want it enough you find a way.

If you need help there's all sort of slowing down software available.

If it's still no happening, which is rare if you truly want it, there's a hole in...

Re: Jazz band playing to a metronome

Letting just over the speakers for the whole band is a bit weird, but you wouldn't have to change it much for me to imagine a situation where it was valid. There are so many factors involved.

I...

Re: What makes syncopation so special?

Photocopy machines weren't invented yet.

Ted just was tired of writing stuff out by hand every evening for the next days lessons.

Other teachers found this text useful.

Re: Hopeless flamm addiction...

Like ghost notes, general clear dynamic variation ect... flams just makes you sound more refined and professional. An important sound for an interesting and natural sounding vocabulary.

Re: Beginners Drum course?

There may be some information and intertainment in those free vids, more like a clinic, but the real courses made by those artist are what you get access to as a member.

Re: Time away from kit

It depends a bit on what kind of drummer you are and find value in, but my little practice kit has taken care of this pretty well.

Re: Buying/Tuning a Concert Snare Drum

Yes there is, but I generally get by with my Black Beauty with die cast hoops.

Re: Wierd set up

People do it to get the kick out og the way. Abe Larorie Jr. does it probably because of his big BD.

Wired hats make sense and you don't get made fun of for using them anymore.

I actually want...

Re: Maybe I'm done compensating for my height ;)

Nah, if you do the heavy stuff and want to use a single floor it's obviously a 16. For once in a while you'll get by with a 14 for that too, though.

Re: Pre-planned drum fills??

Well, are you doing an exact cover or your own version?

How did the original artist treat the song live?

What's appropriate will differ greatly from situation to situation.

Often I'm in a...

Re: Maybe I'm done compensating for my height ;)

When I do use a 20", no. Think 99,99% of people don't. Never seen it.

Re: Maybe I'm done compensating for my height ;)

You buy a new kit every week, don't ya?

My own perspective is very simple. I found out what I wanted quite a while back and I'd like to have a full a pack, all sizes of those, USA Customs. I put...

Re: I don't understand why people close mic

Yes. The only thing they struggle to get is the bass drum, both for depth, but mostly for direction. In the old old days, there was no final mix, just one mic for the band. Soloists moved up closer...

Re: I don't understand why people close mic

It depends so much on the style of music and even more the venue.

In small clubs I even want stage sound, especially as a guitar player. That's the whole point of my big rig. I even want the bass...

Re: Single -doubles workout

I just call this the group of 4 accent sheet. Doubles are definetly the easiest to start with, but there's no limit to the amount of exercise you can construct from it.

Re: how are Natal drums?

If you don't have a very specific preferece yet definetly go used. You'll find something better for the same money or something just as good way cheaper.

Re: Are DW drums still cool?

Sound pretty good, though. Like a nice strat or dare I say Stradivarius. :-)

The more the pool dwindles, the more unique I am.

The people at DW seem to agree that Gretsch is worth conserving...
