Re: Jazz band playing to a metronome
Letting just over the speakers for the whole band is a bit weird, but you wouldn't have to change it much for me to imagine a situation where it was valid. There are so many factors involved.
I...

Re: Hopeless flamm addiction...
Like ghost notes, general clear dynamic variation ect... flams just makes you sound more refined and professional. An important sound for an interesting and natural sounding vocabulary.

There may be some information and intertainment in those free vids, more like a clinic, but the real courses made by those artist are what you get access to as a member.

Re: Time away from kit
It depends a bit on what kind of drummer you are and find value in, but my little practice kit has taken care of this pretty well.

Re: Wierd set up
People do it to get the kick out og the way. Abe Larorie Jr. does it probably because of his big BD.
Wired hats make sense and you don't get made fun of for using them anymore.
I actually want...

How did the original artist treat the song live?
What's appropriate will differ greatly from situation to situation.

Re: Maybe I'm done compensating for my height ;)
You buy a new kit every week, don't ya?
My own perspective is very simple. I found out what I wanted quite a while back and I'd like to have a full a pack, all sizes of those, USA Customs. I put...

Re: I don't understand why people close mic
Yes. The only thing they struggle to get is the bass drum, both for depth, but mostly for direction. In the old old days, there was no final mix, just one mic for the band. Soloists moved up closer...

Re: I don't understand why people close mic
It depends so much on the style of music and even more the venue.
In small clubs I even want stage sound, especially as a guitar player. That's the whole point of my big rig. I even want the bass...

Re: Single -doubles workout
I just call this the group of 4 accent sheet. Doubles are definetly the easiest to start with, but there's no limit to the amount of exercise you can construct from it.

Re: Are DW drums still cool?
Sound pretty good, though. Like a nice strat or dare I say Stradivarius. :-)

The people at DW seem to agree that Gretsch is worth conserving...
