Re: pdp Concept Wood Hoop kit NAMM 2015

As far as I know, they are supposed to be offered with 24" or 26" bass drums, 13" rack tom (maybe 12" as well?) and a 16" floor tom. That's as much as I could glean from the video as the narrator...

Re: Walberg and Auge is back

It looks like they are just trying to revive the brand in a similar fashion as Ronn Dunnett reviving George Way Drums; classic name, new construction.

Personally, I think you need a unique look or...

Re: Older PDP FS Hardware Q's

I thought so. Even in pictures it's very distinct. You have very different hardware than my PDPs. I'm surprised by the part number inside. I guess I got that wrong. If your kit is a 10/12/14/22/14SD,...

Re: Older PDP FS Hardware Q's

I'm curious about the lugs on that kit. Do they have a raised circle/oval pattern on them, or is the face of the lug flat with the circle/oval cut into them? They look like the old Workshop lugs...

Re: Older PDP FS Hardware Q's

The first thing I would suggest about the lugs is to replace the lug inserts with DW inserts. They should fit (I have a couple that are repaired that way), but you will have to replace all of them if...

Re: Dannis Hackney

I found out about these guys on Smodcast (Scott Mosier produced the documentary), and I got hold of the film by the time it hit Amazon. What a hell of a story, and a hell of a band! It made a fan out...

Re: Need help identifying my PDP finish

The X7 config is John Good's "go to" rig:
8/10/12 rack toms
14/16 floor toms
22" bass
5x14" snare

With few exceptions, PDP drums have been limited to these sizes, probably as a way to keep...

Re: Virgil now playing DW

I think there would be a buzz about what kind of gear he's using even without an official endorsement deal. I don't think any drummer of his fame could "quietly" make that kind of move.

Re: Need help identifying my PDP finish

You have a Guitar Center exclusive finish, which is why you don't see it on the DW website. They are only offered in that color through GC. I think Cymbalfusion has the same deal with some Maroon and...

Re: Applications for 13" tom

That's certainly how I took it when I was coming up. I never subscribed to the idea that a drum had some "individual ideal tuning", and I simply arranged them from small to big and tuned them in...

Re: Applications for 13" tom

I can't remember if the author gave any credit to those guys or not. What I do remember is that the gist of the article was on how we could improve the way that things were being done in the...

Re: Applications for 13" tom

13/16/22 is the original holy trinity of shell packs, and I personally think the only reason that 12" drums were added to make them 5-pc. kits was because they had plenty of 12s in stock for...

Re: Anyone here play 3 up with 10/12/14 on a rack?

I'd say it's practical if the 14" tom is no deeper than 10". I had a Ludwig Pro Beat kit with 9x13/10x14 rack toms over a 24" bass. They worked out well for me.

It seems like 14" rack toms don't...

Re: Worst song ever

Surprised nobody has brought this one up yet: "Rude" by Magic.

What begins as a perfectly harmless pop song is suddenly destroyed by the most annoying chorus I've ever heard.
"Why ya gotta be...

Re: More Creative on a Smaller Kit

I don't think it's a matter of larger or smaller. As someone pointed out earlier, it's really just difference that sometimes helps get the juices flowing.

I like all kinds of setups, large and...

Re: A Question To Those That Collect A Number Of Drum Kits

I have a DW and a couple of PDP kits, all in different configs, and they all have their own vibe. I've also got a couple of concert tom kits on the distant horizon, mostly because I think it's a good...

Re: DW Designer Series

Not that I can spend on drums right now, but I'd like to see that White Onyx FP applied to the rest of the lineup, not just the Frequent Flyers. Maybe it will be an option by the time I'm ready to...

Re: 13 snare drum lugs

The only context where this seemed like a good idea was when somebody (Spaun, maybe?) joined 13" and 14" shells together and made a snare with a 13" 8-lug top with a 14" 10-lug snare side.

On a...

Re: This bothers me :\

This is where technique really matters. In the same way that certain hand and finger movements will allow you to hit clean and fast all day with little fatigue, there is a way to use the pedals to...

Re: Opinion needed 16" kick drums

I had the best results with a muffle ring on a PS3 style batter, a single-ply reso, small porting and an empty drum. I kept the tuning no higher than medium-low and no lower than just-above-flappy,...

Re: Has anyone or famous drummers recorded with these crap drums?

Bozzio's first kit was assembled from a junk pile, more or less, and I think he's done OK for himself. Drums are just tools, and if you really get good with them, they are mere toys. A drummer who...

Re: Tight Cymbals and odd setups...

I keep my cymbals pretty tight, but a lot of that has to do with the setup and the way I use them. Since it's a Bozzio-style Radia setup, it's really designed for lower volume melodic playing and not...
