ZZ Top - Thank You, right this moment. Frank Beard's one tasty drummer!

Re: Been playing for 13 years, started taking lessons 2 months ago. My left hand isn't getting anywh

Another good thing to try is to lead with your left hand instead of your right. Instead of crossing your RH over your LH, play open-handed. That alone takes a bit of practice because you have to flip...

Re: Is it late for me? (Drum starter)

18? Too late? Of course not! I started at 15 and I'm 18 as well. You'd be surprised at the progress you can make in 3 years. Psychologically speaking, when you hit your twenties, you might be past...

Re: Hi all, new member

Very nice. And welcome to DW! A lot of us are total weirdos, but trust me - we don't bite!

Great! He's got to find a way to get his fix somehow, doesn't he?

Re: Mapex Came through!!!!

That's great! It's always nice to see that success stories like this can actually become a reality. I'm sure a bunch of other drummers who are after some new Mapex drums are thankful for that as well.

Re: Metallica, so easy a 10 year old can do it!

Ahhh, I've seen this before!

Here's Metallica's response too.

Re: Should I continute to take prive drum lessons?

First off, this is your choice, and your choice alone. If you don't think your teacher is teaching you anything new, then drop him. You're giving him your money on the grounds that he will examine...

Re: Transcribing Help

I saw a couple of other videos of this song and the drummer's still playing a 4-piece, so it's pretty safe to say that the song was recorded with one. That transcription looks right, but if he's...

Re: The birth of heavy metal

I LOVE this line of reasoning. Sure, you can add distortion to any kind of rock (or any kind of music at all, for that matter) and call it metal, but that doesn't mean that it IS metal.

As a...

Re: When The Band Has An "Off" Night

Don't sweat it. What could possibly happen is that you're just not clicking at practice, but you'll be more likely to just let loose, relax, and play the heck out of your setlist when it's time to...

Re: Do the other band members "tell you" how to play?

Although I'm not a working drummer at the moment (I had a gig with my school's electric violin ensemble last year, but couldn't fit it into my schedule this year), I'd most likely take suggestions...

Re: Hello there to all...

It's easy to see why you got 1500 of them. Very nice videos! Welcome to DW! We're an eccentric bunch, but you'll love us anyway.

Re: Dilemma! - Advice please!

First impressions count no matter what situation you're in. The way you put it, the band seems to have had plenty of strings attached and none of them would have yielded any good results for you...

Awesome! I've never actually been to a clinic before, but I'd like to come to this one - is this one free of charge?

Re: Metal Practice Sticks

They look like they'd be nice for practice, but I don't really see any more applications for them besides that...My opinion, but I'm perfectly fine with regular sticks!

Re: How often do you use the butt-ends when playing?

I use them occasionally, but only when I need to play a louder dynamic. I tend to stay away from the butts because I play my ride a lot more than most of the things on my kit, and stick butts don't...

Re: Another opportunity or failure?

I'm going to go with every other nay-sayer here. This looks like very unstable ground - stay on it too long and you'll find yourself in a very bad situation! This guy's BS-ing you; run from it!

Re: David Letterman Drum Solo Week II

This DSW seems like it will be better than the last! I'm in school right now, so I can't stay up late enough to watch them on CBS. I'll wait for them on Youtube.
