Re: Snare for a $200 budget

The 5.5, or 6.5 Supralite are GREAT sounding, solid snares.
Quite a bit under $200 brand new. Very sensitive, and have good tuning ranges to be a nice workhorse snare, covering pretty much anything...

Re: New drum kit! Woohoo 28" Ludwig kick. Need some help...

I used a 28 for 10 years. I had 16x28, and 20x28.
They both sounded best to me with a coated ambassador batter with a 3x4" beater patch.
The deeper shell had 12 lugs and was a PITA to tune. The...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

Got a 13" CS Black Dot for this baby. I had all the other heads.
The 12-13-15-16-18 came back, just waiting for one more 16, and the 26 to be delivered.

Drum porn when the whole kit is...

Re: New to me Acrolite

Very nice find, nice price too!

I have a '75-'76 with the same shell, but mine still has the "pointed' B/O.
Not sure what year they started with the rounded edges on the badge.
My serial number...

Re: More Creative on a Larger Kit

I feel creative with either a P-85 or P-86 on my snare. It doesn't matter which one.

Re: Q Drum Co.

These Q drums seem pretty cool. I like metal shell drums a lot.

Re: Bass drum pillow talk: Keeping it down

Nice idea. I like the little clams to secure it. That seems more stable and less to think about. It probably looks better too.

I use the small foam piece inside my bass drums, not touching the...

Re: The matching snare

It's also the drum on the kit someone could sell the easiest, to get something else, or if they are in a financial pinch.

High end kits may, or, may not come with a snare, but mid-priced kits...

Re: bass drum depth

Sound-wise, I like all sorts of depth bass drums.
I like the look of a deep bass drum on SOME kits.

I've never had anything but great sound (quickly & easily) from my deeper bass drums live, and...

Re: The matching snare

When I got my Red Sparkle kit in '07, I thought I'd like to get a matching snare.
After I got it, I found I didn't like the look of it at all. I liked the Red with the Black kit though.

In wood...

Re: Ludwig shells from 93?

Those would be Super Classics.
Thin maple, and a couple thicker plies of poplar.
Aug 1993

Great sounding shells. My original Mach lug kit is a Jan 1990 Super Classic.
That one is out getting...

Re: Do you ever stand back from your drums...

I knew I wasn't the only one!

I look/stare and marvel at the gear I have all the time. I have a small kit set up in my work room also, and it has 2 of the drums from my very first kit (Royce). I...

Re: Trimmed down kits

True, but, I have been seeing more double bass kits being used lately. Maybe that's going to be a trend with bigger bands or drummers?
Jason Sutter even uses double bass on the latest Smash Mouth...

Re: Mystery Ludwigs

Besides the snare not being a Ludwig drum--or maybe the lugs have just been swapped out, since you said it has the same interior, these appear to be marching drums converted to make up a...

Re: Opinions on what to do with these old ludwig Classic Maples?

Cool toms. The Blue has likely yellowed over time, giving the Green cast.

I had that size 13x14 power tom back in the 90's. Not my favorite drum because of the 10 lugs, but it did sound big. I...

Re: Mystery drum kit (ludwig)

It'd be a real kit, no one would "fake" an Epic, or Element kit.

For one, parts aren't readily available, like the Classic lugs are, and two, who would put effort into faking a line that isn't...

Re: Real Ludwigs?

Date stamps are funny, like the serial numbers on badges.

My '07 CM set, and drums I bought since then, do not have a date stamp in them. The drums from '90 only had a month/year stamp. I bought...

Re: Ludwig mid-2000's mystery--need help in identifying

There was a short time in the early/mid-2000's that Ludwig had a "vintage" shell. It only lasted a year or so.

That shell was 5 plies. It was just before the CM line came out. I have a 10x13...

Re: Real Ludwigs?

Real Ludwig.
The spurs look like they are in backwards.

That's a correct tom holder.

Re: Don't underestimate your throne height

I raised my seat a few inches in the last year too.
I didn't sit extra low, it was about 19".

Now I'm at 21-22". It feels MUCH better all around.

In one of my bands, it feels better playing...
