The sales guy at my drum shop in the 70's told me to find what I want and assume 60% of list price.
I still go by that same standard.
You should be able to buy a $1000 list bass drum for $600.

Agreed there are a few signals that tell us those are not from 1981........or there are signs of some sort of retrofit.

Regardless, the sizes, silver interiors and the hoops would indicate USA...

I had a similar Ludwig set from 1973, although it was maple/mahogany.

Looks like you have what was called a single-bass "octo-plus".............eight concert toms.

When I was looking to add a kit to my collection, I had it narrowed down to the Ludwig Epic, Gretsch Maple-Cats and one of the options from Crush.

My first gut instinct was to go with Gretsch...

Agreed -- for the money, EPIC has a very good sound and looks good too.
