Re: Roger Taylor

Phenomenally solid drummer and a very very good backing vocalist.

Potentially could have showed more chops but did he need to? He served the song and is a stellar example of how drums should be...

Advice on how to advertise as a session drummer

Hi guys,

I'm looking to get into the world of session drumming (more for local gigs then for recording at this stage...).

I'm thinking that it may be best to have a website to advertise myself...

Re: Taking back your gigs

Some very sage advice given in this thread. The situation sucks but I suppose to keep things sweet you have to cave in. Lessons to be learned for all of us...

Re: Taking back your gigs

Maybe this is an idea ( a crazy one but...)

Let him have the gig but he pays you his cut, and you pay him when you do the replacement gig next month?

Re: Thoughs on Mapex?

Its interesting that you say that because in the Midlands (England) I dont know an awful lot of people who play Mapex and I do check out the local scene a fair bit. Most people use Pearl, Premier and...

Re: Thoughs on Mapex?

I have played on and owned various Yamaha, Pearl, Tama, Premier and Mapex kits.

All offer different things but for me I prefer Mapex. It's a matter of taste, but Mapex's birch shells to me sound...

Re: Discouragement for Chops I Don't Have

Chops are a good thing in low to moderate levels. But if I had the choice of taking someone on tour who played fast licks all the time or someone who played more sympathetically with the music, I'd...

Re: Too smart for my friends?

I will give you an example outside of music from when I was 8 years old. Doing child activities was boring for me so I used to follow up the news stories. This was around the time when the IRA...

Re: Wood vs Metal

Its all situation dependant. I have bought a Mapex 14x5.5 maple snare drum (The MPX series) as I have a wooden piccolo and a steel snare drum but not wooden. I can only echo whats been said before in...

Re: Songs With Bored Drummers

Sorry mate, its just that JB is a classic case of play what is needed for the song and MP is the opposite. I can't think of any better examples and the immature attitude Tommy D shows is an attitude...

Re: Need help to identify this Export

I'm no expert but either way $150 AUS is a steal for Pearl Export. Take it take it take it

Re: Songs With Bored Drummers

I think this is a symptom of being a drummer, not a musician.

I try to sympathise with every other instrument even to the point that when I hear a new song I am not even looking for the drum beat....

Re: Songs With Bored Drummers

Tommy, I'm answering this as I used to have this silly attitude that Mike Portnoy was a god and Steve Gadd was crap because all he did was play stuff that sounded easy. I realise you talked about...

Re: What do we think of drummers that deliberately play out of time?

Playing 'out of time' in the sense these guys do is hard for me to listen to sometimes if I dont get whats going on. Sometimes Virgils stuff just doesnt sit right with. Technically of course its...

Re: Is this beyond repair?

Am I the only one to see the pictures and wish there were drum police to arrest the owner of these drums for gross negligence?

Re: Upgrade cymbals or drums first?

I'd like to know how much you have to play with before giving my humble opinion. But Yamaha Rydeens are very good kits at the entry level. I used to make mine sound very good.

Re: Tabs Vs. Traditional Notation

I've got nothing against either form, same as I don't have anything against patterns being written in a line with letters instead of notes (like Adam Tuminaro does in his videos as Orlando Drummer on...

Re: How long could you do it?

Some music simply HAS to be metroniomically perfect. Try playing Death Metal without a metronome. Some styles lend themselves more to a laidback feel.

As everyone records seperately though it is...

Re: Drum advice please! (Rock/metal)

I wont recommend drums or pedals for you, but make sure you invest in a decent pedal and buy your kit second hand. Save the money and use it to buy a great double pedal.

Re: Chad vs Will

I think he's world class. Phenomenal drummer. Such deep pocket. Flea is so so lucky to have Chad as drummer in RHCP. I'd die to be given Chads skills in heaven, his groove is phenomenal.
