One thought with that. Try using a mesh batter head on that snare, that way you only get the electronic sound.

Yes, if the signal is translated by some of the newer drum brains. I use a TD20, and the brain itself slightly changes the sound and the volume as you hit harder.

I also learned/ learning drums "later" in life. The teacher is the first step, you will do things based on the way you hear things, which may or may not be correct.

Not sure if this is any help to the discussion,,,,but I have a completely triggered only kit running through a Roland TD20. This module has a dynamic range very close to the kick before I triggered....
