Re: DW Snare Drums?

I came across this interesting bit of info comparing the stretchiness of the Evans hazy 300 compared to the Remo hazy 300. As I suspected the culprit may be just the head.. I did pick up an Aquarian...

Re: DW Snare Drums?

Re: DW snare being body... I ran into that at first but it really is a tuning issue.. I had to invest some time to find the sweet spot range and it paid off. Not sure why. But this 14x6 1/4Ē maple...

Re: Was there a golden age of drum manufacturing

Hard to say about wood quality.. some vintage woods just seem to get better with time but todays manufacturing techniques are awesome. Hardware is so much better by todays standards.. some old...

Re: Tuning a snare to perfect 4th's with a Tune-bot

Love it! Best collection of music interval snippets I've come across. I usually use 'Twinkle Little Star' for 3 toms.. or some other nursery rhymes but those are great.

For tuning intervals...

Re: I Play Drums and Sing in this Beatles Song

Excellent! Very well played on all instruments and recorded very well.. you could be a producer maybe? Nice drumming - very relaxed and dynamic!
I'd like to hear you sing without playing drums and...

Re: Drummer-Bassist Observations

Re: Drummer-Bassist Observations

Where do you find a bassist or any musician that only wants to keep time?? Keeping time is table stakes - you've either got it or if you don't, you don't get very far in this business.. it's how you...

Re: Drummer-Bassist Observations

Just to say - I love playing with bass players that have impeccable time. It makes everything so much easier and tighter sounding.
The worst experience I had was with a guy who thought he was Jaco...

Re: Drummer-Bassist Observations

I used to totally watch and listen to the bass player.. but sometimes I play with bassists that are good but their time is either sloppy or behind the beat - which throws me off - I set the tempo and...

Re: A Lesser Kit For Gigging?

I tend to always bring the best stuff I have - unless it's an outdoor gig. I used to drag my Recording customs or Premiers around but now keep that at a practice space... they are awesome kits....

Re: DW Snare Drums?

I use a 6x14 maple DW snare which is awesome - but it wasn't without hiccups. I can understand some of the comments about sounding boxy and dead. It took a while before I was happy with the snare as...

Re: Drummers that can't tune drums.

When I sound check my drums out front - it s to check what the sound guy has done with my sound. Usually good.. but sometimes I hear things in the mix that need improvement from the mixing side of...

Re: Canít hear my kick!

Guitarists..Lol. IF I could count how many times the sound guy says to the lead guitar players.. 'turn it down!'

If you are playing in a small room and can't hear your kick then the other guys are...

Re: Drummers that can't tune drums.

As room dynamics can effect your sound in just about every hall.. after sound check, I usually ask my guitarist to play my kit and I walk around the room to hear how they come across.. which is...

Re: Drummers that can't tune drums.

LoL - I had the same experience.. the other band offered to let me use their kit on an outdoor double bill (and it looked like rain) so I jumped at the opportunity. The drums sounded like garbage -...

Re: I hate that Song!!

I updated my previous post about the odd change:
"The pattern launches after the snare lands on '2' followed by a 7-stroke triplet pattern and a pause."

Re: I hate that Song!!

Ah.. listened again - it's a 5-stroke roll at the beginning with the accent on 1 and 5, then the double crash landing on the 1. Also I'd count it as 4 bars of 4/4 for the hihat intro..so the roll...

Re: I hate that Song!!

Back to the OP question .. that's a swing pattern; take away Satriani's wicked guitar and throw in horns.. but the beginning sounds like 4 bars of 4 with a trad swing hat and a 5-stroke roll after 3...

Re: Good enough to get through a gig

Definitely heel up with knee slightly bent - or a hybrid where you sit back until your heel is almost touching and your leg is more outstretched. In both cases think of hammering the ball of your big...

Re: I don't understand why people close mic

There are many ways to mic drums either live or in studio.. but it's really picking the best tool for the space. Close micing is awesome if you have a sound tech that knows what they're doing.. and...
