It's hard enough to find one good sounding cymbal.

Removing the wrap from old Ludwigs?

Has anyone tried it? I might be crazy enough to do it to mine if the outer plies look nice. If it helps, my years are '67 and '69.

Re: The session guys!

I would throw in Keith Carlock and Steve Jordan with the other names mentioned. Cool idea!

Re: Best drum music notation software

Guitar Pro 6 is pretty great for being 92% cheaper than Sibelius ($50 rather than $600).

Re: The 20" shallower bass drum, not as easy to find as I thought

I got a '68 (or is that '58.. you tell me) Slingerland 20 x 14 on ebay for $300 USD about a year ago. It's an ugly orphan, but it sounds great! Oddly it has no spurs leading be to believe it was a...

Re: Jeff Beck w/ Vinnie (Full Crossroads 07 Set)

Listening now........ holy cow this is killing. Beautiful playing from all. You were right about Vinnie, this is amazing... I wish the audience would shut up during his solo!

Re: Alesis DM8, Garageband, and you

It sounds like although you have an interface, you aren't using it in the recording chain. Does it have a 1/4" input? If so:

-Set your interface as the recording device
-Set your interface as...

Re: Jeff Beck w/ Vinnie (Full Crossroads 07 Set)

Have you heard them do "Because We've Ended as Lovers"? They played it in this set but for some reason it isn't in the video. Vinnie is slightly more subdued on it.

Re: Jeff Beck w/ Vinnie (Full Crossroads 07 Set)

I agree! Did you notice that on the DVD, Beck's Bolero and Space Boogie (and maybe others) were re-recorded? I've always wanted to know the story of that...

Jeff Beck w/ Vinnie (Full Crossroads 07 Set)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yy_9Unnnduc

Jeff Beck, Jason Rebello, Tal Wilkenfeld and of course Vinnie Colaiuta. This is a great (dynamic!) recording of this band and I've never heard them...

Re: Thoughs on Mapex?

I like my Saturns. They're (relatively) inexpensive and have a nice range of tuning and dynamics with a very full albeit bright sound. The kit comes with a good snare drum too. This is the first...

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

Alright, I'll bite. 14" deep bass drums are overrated.

I own Mapex Saturns, I'll be the one making the generalizations around here.

Where do you draw the line with Frankenstein?

For a couple of years now I've been using Mapex Saturn drums with a 22" bass drum as a main kit. As you may know, they are notoriously heavy. I have been carrying a 20x16 Tama Starclassic B/B bass...

Re: Why is it so hard for the band to follow me?!?!

Ha! I know that feeling all too well. I once replaced a drummer in a band where the recordings were being re-done (same tunes). When I listened to the old versions I thought "this guy swings like...

Re: Why is it so hard for the band to follow me?!?!
