Re: Rank the brands

Only qualified to comment on what I own/have owned. But from my own humble experience.

1) Ludwig (Talking about my mongrel players kit) - Not for build quality, wood quality and most definitely...

Re: It's official! I'm a Metal Head!

Sounds like good old Pub Rock as we call it here. A.K.A blokes whose kids have grown up and they wanna enjoy themselves again. (Extra-marital jamming)

I've played in a couple of these bands,...

Re: Keeping the beat at a show while in tears with laughter

Outdoor weddings, wet grass, a portable dancefloor that turns into an ice rink and lots of booze. I've seen people get some serious air.

There was also the time our bassist decided to go on a walk...

Re: Keeping the beat at a show while in tears with laughter

My sense of humour is way too warped to answer this question properly and the professionally offended types would be after me!

As with anything practice makes perfect! You can prepare yourself for...

Re: Philosophical Question

Been on both ends of the spectrum and I'll happily take worst player in the band. I like a challenge.

Being around better players brings you up to their level and makes you raise your game. A good...

He did play on a Steely Dan track on Katy Lied. 'Any World That I'm Welcome To'. Only track on the album Jeff didn't play on

Re: Since Hal Blaine has passed.....

Vinnie did Megadeth the System Has Failed, that made me chuckle. Nobody would have ever guessed! That must have been an interesting phone call!

There was also Andy White who played drums on Love...

Re: Top 5 songs to get people to dance

Re: Cramping problems. Solution?

Hi Kevin

Could be a few things but try the easy fix first.

Keep yourself well hydrated (Not beer!) and keep your potassium levels up. Sounds silly but eat a banana before you go on.

Stay...

Re: Mapex Saturn walnut V

Is that the finish or the wood?

As far as I knew the Saturn Vs were all maple/walnut mix. They tune up so easily and really resonate.

Check the Saturn V Tour Series out, shallow bass drums....

Looks familiar that list :), sounds like most of my Saturday nights in the summer!

I'll add:

When the crowd is heavily refreshed..............

Re: A Lesser Kit For Gigging?

Dude never buy gear with the thought of letting someone else use it.

You're gonna get some whining from butthurt shedbuilders who think someone should provide equipment for them to knock the shit...

Re: A Lesser Kit For Gigging?

Anything by Remo/Evans/Aquarian in the bog standard 2 ply coated range will do the job just fine. The Evans G14 is also worth looking at (single ply but thickness of 2 ply....sorry if ya already...

Re: Crossroads

What the hell!!!! Who got rich off that? I'd have gone after 8 seconds never mind 8 years!

Do something with zero baggage on your own terms. The enjoyment will come flooding back.

Re: Are there simple things you struggle with even though you've been playing a while?

Wow, first post and it's a bite welcome to drummer world! I'm gonna hedge my bets and say you're 100% bassist seeing as you missed the joke.

The sarcasm was as obvious as a galloping horse. That's...

Re: Hal Blaine passed

I think the fact he owned the most recorded musical instrument........ever speaks volumes. That will never be beaten or gotten close to.

Worked his arse off in the 50s/60s/70s but stayed humble....

Re: Do Cover Bands 'Simplify' Songs?

Yep totally agree with this, you get some real boring crowds. The strangest gigs are when the really boring crowds ask for more after you've slogged your arse off for 2 hours.

Re: Opinion on mapex

"Furthermore it is my first time buying something from mapex - so if you have some thoughts on the brand as a whole, durability, quality, service etc I would also very much like to hear it." - The OP

Re: Drummer-Bassist Observations

Oh this is the bassist in my wedding band. He is that tight with money he squeaks. I'm amazed he forked out for an American Fender Jazz. But a 1100 bass going through a 300 amp sounds like a 300...

Re: Drummer-Bassist Observations

Failed musicians usually.

A bassist that has good time, can count, spends money on their gear and has a good tone is verging on unicorn territory. IF you're lucky enough to play with one of these...

Re: Opinion on mapex

They build pro level drums and manage to sell them at mid range prices.

I have a Saturn V, only had it for 3 weeks and can't stop playing it. Tunes up so easily and sound amazing.

There's a lot...

Re: Drummer-Bassist Observations

This!

If you stay in your lane everybody's happy.

On the other hand I was in an original band that was very Primus/Tool influenced. The bass was more melodic than rhythmic. This guy was by far...

Re: Anyone regret having your drum cut down?

You'll probably increase the resale value with a 14" deep bass drum. You can fit it through doorways for a start! I've had a 24x20 and a 26x20, they're that deep you question the need for the front...
