Re: Carmine Appice Lobbies For Led Zeppelin Drum Spot

If you can't hear his voice cracking all over the place and the modulation of a bunch of lines down to a lower register then I don't know what to tell you.

Re: Carmine Appice Lobbies For Led Zeppelin Drum Spot

We're just playing semantics here. We both agree that he had diminished ability in comparison to the early Zep years. When I say he "lost his voice" I mean that he could in no way sing the high parts...

Re: Carmine Appice Lobbies For Led Zeppelin Drum Spot

Nope, saying it was the version of Plant that had 50% of his former ability after blowing out his voice on multiple tours. Have you seen the live footage? I've had multiple friends attend shows in...

Re: Carmine Appice Lobbies For Led Zeppelin Drum Spot

Just thought this was a good opportunity to post this

Bonham's feel is definitely hard to get just right. It seems that most people just try to hit...

Re: Independence vs learning set patterns

Yes, they can. I've seen a few drummers do this, usually hands soloing over feet.

Usually I have to do what you guys are talking about, breaking everything down and seeing where everything falls....

Re: Meytal Cohen? She plays, right?

How attractive is Meytal really? Maybe it's because I'm from California but I'd probably walk right by her without a second glance.

Re: Meytal Cohen? She plays, right?

I mean specifically in the context of watching videos for inspiration. I look for people that can play better than me. Annika and Emanuelle are on regular rotation.

Re: Meytal Cohen? She plays, right?

Meytal is 100% a studio product and Annika can really play. So can Emanuelle Caplette. I think the male/female drummer distinction is dumb. You can either play or you can't. I'm not going to spend...

Re: New Breed for a relative beginner?

I think that whether you get into it now or not, you'll use New Breed. I've been through the first 39 systems and still go back to it for the reading sections when I have a new ostinato pattern I...

Re: New Breed for a relative beginner?

Dude, you can figure out New Breed if you can read. The first few systems are not at all hard. SOme of the systems can be used as a two-limb ostinato (like ride and hi hat) and you can play the beats...

Re: Straying out of my comfort zone

Be warned. The guy from the hahahaha thread was a seasoned drummer who took an e-kit gig for the first time.

Re: Another Frustrated Drummer....

I've played with people who want the drums a certain way but can't speak in musical terms or even sing the beat they're thinking of. At that point I stop caring and do what I want. If this dude can't...

Any snare can work if you tune it the right way.

Re: Hahahahahahahaha :)

Impeccable musicality, dynamics, and feel. 5 out of 5 stars.

That church has some good gear. You'd think they could hire a real drummer.

I'm not suggesting that one should be entirely self taught.

Re: When to stop taking lessons?

I think that provided the right tools, anyone can become their own best teacher. I've only taken about six months worth of lessons in 20 years of playing. I learned proper technique and how to read....

Re: Applications for 13" tom

I had a 12-13-16 kit once and I hated the 13 as well until I realized that if I tuned it first so that it would sound good by itself, the 12 would still sound pretty good when tuned higher in order...

Re: Tempo comfort zones

Personally if someone starts off a song at the wrong tempo I will fix it. You gotta think about the flow of the vocals. I was at a church gig once when the acoustic guitarist started off a mid tempo...

Re: Cover Band Drummists - How accurate are you?

Around here a tribute band only covers one act, and they usually go all out in attempt to look just like the original band as well. 'Copy band' sounds horrible.
