Re: Santos rosewood snare video

My god that drum has a lot of character. Nice crack, with some good depth. I love it.

What sonic characteristics would santos rosewood offer, typically speaking?

Re: '51 Slingerland Resto-mod

Goon, I've seen some of your other posts, and man, you really know what you're doing. Absolutely lovin' that snare! The finish is gorgeous, and it sounds pretty darn good! Also, I have to say, I like...

Re: Mapex help

Yep, definitely looks like a Mars series kit. It's a beginner-intermediate kit that can be made to sound pretty good.

Re: Floor Tom tuning

I really should have clarified what I meant by "a little higher". In my mind, I foolishly assumed that "just above wrinkle" was a universal thing that all drummers knew. Silly me, not making my...

Re: Floor Tom tuning

Throw a G1 on there, tune it up a little bit higher, and bring the reso just a tad above that, and it should give you what you want.

Re: The order of things....

Yep, I'd recommend snare and hats before anything else as well. You can make a beginner kit sound nice, with good heads and tuning, but a nice snare will always be better.

Re: For you Ludwig fans!

Unusual finish, bit it's quite nice. A bit pricey though.

Re: Another great clip from Virgil

I love Virgil's sense of space in his playing here. So open yet full. Just wicked.

Thanks for sharing!

Re: Shitty bands that don't use a real drummer

I'm sorry... but what's the purpose? To team up and bash bands?

No, i think something like this is best left alone. We're supposed to be welcoming and supportive of musicians, not bashing them...

Re: Cool drums, cool car.....

Yep, I'd rather have the drums as well. Although I could flip the car, buy the drums, and still have some cash left over methinks.

That is a damn fine kit, if I do say so myself.

Re: a simple little trick that helped me. Maybe it can help you.

Yep, I also keep a drum key on my keyring. Just a simple no-frills Evans key.

The attack of those toms! Holy cow do they ever sound wicked! Loving the low end from them too, and I bet they project really well.
Bass sounds superb as well, and although I'm not a fan of the...

Re: Snare Drum Tuning: The Neil Peart Sound

Re: "You're a drummer? Oh can you play..."

Yeah, I get that question all the time. Even from my best friend of 15 years. We'll be listening to the radio or his iPod, and he'll look over at me and ask:

"Can you play this?"

Happens all...

Re: Hi-Hats: Tight or loose????

I've got my clutch fairly loose on my top hat. I like the sloshiness that that entails. I also find that having it super tight just chokes the hell out of the cymbal, and it doesn't respond as nicely.

Re: Crazy hard work has it's compensations - my playground :)

Thanks for clearing that up. I was aware that grain orientation played a part in shaping the sound of the drum, so that all makes sense. I guess I'd always assumed segmented and stave were...

Lol, definitely not posting as your wife.

I do have a legitimate question though. It may have been answered before, but I've not noticed, so here goes.

On the last picture you posted, I see...
