Pearl BRX Masters Kit info needed

I currently have a Yamaha Stage Custom birch set and I saw a pretty cool Pearl Masters BRX kit that I was thinking of getting as a second set. This is a birch set with fusion sized toms. The kit...

What kind of kit would you get a 10 year old?

My son is really getting into hitting my drums as of late. The only issue is that the seat is too high even at the lowest setting although he can reach the pedals. I'm thinking of getting him his...

Re: Yamaha Stage Customs - upgrade or wait

^^^^^^^ or two

The 13" under the ride is an old wrapped stage series, but the color matches enough. The 14" tom is still bagged in plastic. The Pearl free floating brass snare will stay, as will...

Yamaha Stage Customs - upgrade or wait

I have a set of cranberry red stage custom birch. I got the kit as a 10, 12,16, 22. I then added an older 13" stage tom and finally a brand new 8 and 14 rack toms. I like the drums, but I was...

Do certain musical genres gravitate to specific drum brands?

I normally think of Tama for hard rock/metal and Gretsch for swing/jazz. Sort of the way Ibanez guitars is to hard rock and Gretsch guitars are to jazz/fusion.

Any thoughts? Does anyone use...

Re: What are these Mapex Drums

I don't think the small tom is part of the same series or even a Mapex tom? Anyway, I guess it's not worth getting as I would want something equivalent or better than my Stage Custom Birch kit.

What are these Mapex Drums

Can any of you Mapex guru's identify this drum set? The 8" tom doesn't seem to belong. Otherwise, it's a Mapex. The seller is looking for $250 - $300 or possibly a trade for a 4x12 cabinet.

Maple equivalent of Yamaha's Stage Custom Birch

I'm looking to get a maple equivalent of Yamaha's Stage Custom Birch. It doesn't have to be a Yamaha set, but I would like to know what is an equivalent maple kit. Looking mainly for a shell kit,...

Are you a drum person or a cymbal person

I would be pretty happy on a 5 piece kit as long as I have tons of cymbals to hit. What do you like? Large kit with a few cymbals or less drums with lots of cymbals?

I think the metallic blue looks great.

Does air drumming with sticks helpful if you don't have anything to hit?

I like to keep my hands loose, so sometimes I will just practice with the sticks but not hit anything. Will that hurt my actual playing? I notice that my left hand is actually much stronger now.

Re: Toms - fusion vs. standard

Great info guys. Currently my 10 and 16 are close to an octave, and when go from low to hi, I get the race track theme. So I just have to fit in one more.

Re: Toms - fusion vs. standard

I am planning to add a 14 to my current 10, 12, 13 and 16, but my question really is there a standard pitch for each diameter drum? If you have 2 fusion kits, are the tuned the same and does...

Toms - fusion vs. standard

For people who have multiple kits, especially a fusion and a standard, do you ultimately tune the 12" identical in each kit? If so, and you put both kits together, will the interval between the toms...

Tom placement

I know that the norm is usually going from smallest to largest in a clockwise direction on the kit for a righty and vice versa for a lefty. Does anyone mix up the tom sizes going around like 8, 12,...

Re: Tuning With A Guitar Tuner

So if you tuned the toms to lets say C, E and G, would the pitches be prominent enough that if the band plays a tune in C#, there would be some dissonance between the instruments?

Drum size question

Is the proper way to identify a drum "diameter x depth" or "depth x diameter"? For the most part, is it safe to say that the larger of the 2 numbers will always be the diameter?

Birch vs. Maple or birch and maple in the same kit

If you have 2 identical drums, using identical heads and tuned the same, how much variation will there be in the tone? Lets say you had 4 toms, 10, 12, 14 and 16. Other than possible visuals, would...
