Re: Drummers who don't play/use a ride cymbal.

Tomas Haake ditched his years back, as well as 2 toms. He's more ergonomic now, more stacks and hi-hats.

Re: Rockstar > Swingstar?

Totally agree. The Silverstar is pretty amazing, I would have kept mine but I found a Starclassic B/B brand new & really cheap so I sold it. I really think the Silverstar is the leader of that price...

Re: Neil Peart

Hating on Neil P?

That is just so sad. I think you truly have to be a lifeless **epsilon-minus to waste time and energy on bashing someone who has accomplished so much and with good intentions....

Re: Why the hate? (Lars Ulrich)

Exactly.. On all points. The major point being "he was right" about the Napster issue and if more people joined the cause maybe original artists would have better control over their music. I'm...

Re: Neil Peart

Well put man! Excellent point!

Each of the greats has a concentrated strength or mastery and we recognize them for it, so no one should really compare them based on one or many parameters. Going...

Re: end of guitar centre?

It makes me wish there was a Steve Maxwell's in Central Jersey. Given the lower operating overhead than NY and Chicago, I think they would do well - there are lots of people who appreciate a quality...

Re: end of guitar centre?

Totally agree man. The GC near us (Somerville Circle) is the worst of them all.

Speaking of Hardware Stores, do you go to Warrenville Paint & HW on Mountain Blvd.? Love that place, also, I go to...

Re: Attention Tune-Bot Owners!

Dennis is right, it won't affect the tunebot. I actually tuned a piece of crap Backline kit at a loud Metal club while the soundguy had music blasting. I made this POS Pearl sound amazing, even the...

Re: what to choose Tama Superstar maple vs Tama Starclassic BB

Another thumbs-up for the Starclassic B/B. Best kit I ever bought.

Re: Tama StarClassic

Yup it's the same kit, I just removed the bass drum mount because I prefer stands to get the 10 and 12 close and stay that way when I play (hate when one tom moves out of place).

To my ears, the...

Re: It Happened Again!!

Tell him if he does it again, you will prison-pound him in the keister and wipe your junk on his grandmother's grave.

Re: It Happened Again!!

My band fell for that marketing hype recently but we actually did it in one session. In Clifton NJ, there's a place called "Mozart Studios" that uses a Sony 24 track from 80's. We did 3 songs in one...

Re: Tama Starclassic Performer B/B vs Yamaha Live Custom

I was down this road with both kits you mention recently (last few months).

Now, to be honest, I think Yamaha is THE best drum company, period. I love their drums and hardware more than anything,...

It will be announced soon that Lars will be replacing Antonio Sanchez in PMG mainly because of his superior dynamics and composition skills...

Re: HELP: Which road do I take?

Echoing what others have said, why not do both?

However, I have questions for you: do you see yourself playing other people's music for a long time happily? Do you enjoy making your own drum parts...

Re: Sold my stage customs, looking for mid range maple kit

I did the same a while back, and if you really liked the punch and attack of the stage customs, then go with KamaK's suggestion of the Signet's. I had the renowns and they were a bit softer/warmer....

Re: Meytal Cohen? She plays, right?

I just checked her out for the first time today after seeing this thread. The "Jagger" song linked below was very good, but I checked out Tom Sawyer at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKFJbSzhovk -...

Re: Practicing on an electric kit....

Also, give the new Yamaha DTX a try. I've used Rolands since the late 90's and the TCS pads seem closer to acoustic than mesh. It's just my opinion, but I noticed that when I went from practicing on...

Re: i just want one kit :/

I had the same idea a month ago, which was to have just one great acoustic kit, so I downsized from 3 (sold all of them) and I now have one great kit that I plan to hold on to for a while - Tama...

Re: Worst song ever

Nope, this is: http://youtu.be/iq_d8VSM0nw and this guy actually has a record contract - this vid has over 33 million views. Sickening... comedy or not.

It's really a testament to the statements...

Re: Carmine Appice Lobbies For Led Zeppelin Drum Spot

Exactly. I don't understand how someone could show up at gig like this (or any for that matter) and NOT be prepared - you can tell he did not rehearse on his own. Oh wait, maybe his ego prevented...

Thanks man, almost forgot about that - now I remember his instructional vid back in the 90's.

Re: Heavy music, where did the ride go?

For the metal and hard rock stuff I use a heavier ride (K Custom) and 13" hats on the right and a zilbel on the left - basically you have to figure out what sound will cut through and drive the parts...
