Re: Beginner Kid's Kit

My daughter wanted to get my grandson a kit for his 8th birthday. He's been playing mine since he was 5, and wanted set at home. I told her I would handle it, and gave him one of my kits instead of...

Re: Worst Badge in the Business

I don't have a problem with Mapex---mine were very classy, and understated---especially on this kit :)

Re: Wood stain on a Fiberskyn !

I use Minwax Golden Oak on my Maple guitar necks---just slightly darkens the wood, and brings out the grain. Top it off with a couple of light coats of satin clear, and all is good. I don't see why...

Re: Wood stain on a Fiberskyn !

I like it! I can't stand the look of white drumheads, so maybe I'm a bit biased, but matching the bass reso to the color of the shells is a cool idea. The selection of different colors of wood stain...

Re: what to people mean by "cheap" drums?

This is an ultra-cheap kit---I paid $125 for the 5-piece set at a pawn shop. The shells are perfectly round, the bearing edges are flat and true, the lugs/mounts are solid, and the wrap is not...

Re: DFO hacked again

I haven't had any problems on DFO---or any other site---If your security is letting this stuff through on a discussion forum you might want to think about what is happening when you do your online...

Re: Sorry Neil......Ringo and Paul has much more "feel" than you

When I pay money to see a band that I like I expect to hear the music like it was on the record---and I certainly don't care to hear a bunch of improv by "the new guy" I can see a cover band for free...

Re: The one piece of gear you'll take to the grave

Since you didn't specifically say drum gear---this was my first electric guitar, and I will never sell her!

Re: guitars too loud, why?!!

Amazing how far this thread has strayed from the original post. It started out as practicing too loud, took a hard left at insulting each others' taste in music, continued down the road to insulting...

Re: Installing a tom mount on a virgin bass drum..

Just a thought---if you are using L-rod mounts on the toms there is no reason the down-tube needs to go through the shell---just cut it off at the height you need, and use a gasket under the mount....

Re: Need Deep Drums like Dave Grohl

That red Power V kit is pretty sweet for $400! And it comes with a snare!

Re: guitars too loud, why?!!

I just listened to high on fire---I kept waiting for the "musicality" what a joke---is that crap considered music now?

Re: Need Deep Drums like Dave Grohl

I guess I must be stuck in the past along with the music that I play---Both of my kits are power tom sizes---12x10, 13x11, 16x16, 22x14, 14x6.5 snares.
2 toms on the bass with tube style mounts,...

Re: guitars too loud, why?!!

I have been playing guitar for 40 years, and grew up playing Van Halen, Sabbath, Led Zep, and all the '80s hair band stuff. There is NO reason to rehearse at concert hall volume in your buddy's...

Re: Advice on damage to bearing edge

Looks to me like someone used wood putty to fill in the gap instead of repairing it properly---if the bearing edge is cut correctly it won't make any difference---the head shouldn't even touch the...

Re: Upgrade SP or replace?

The guys on here are great, but they are also really good at spending other peoples' money! Get some new heads, and spend the extra money where it will make the most difference---Cymbals!!! If you...

Re: T rods on bassdrum batter side at bottom vs floor tuning issue

I have read dozens of threads on here about how important proper tuning is to making your drums sound good---and now I'm hearing all this nonsense about 1/4 turn makes no difference? Even HEAD...

Re: Snare Locking

Metal shells do not compress as much as wood when struck---I wouldn't be surprised if your bearing edge is compromised from repeated pounding, and contributing to the problem.

Re: Snare Locking

All you need is some little square pieces of plastic with a hole in the middle---the hole should be the same size as the head of the T-rod across the flats, and the side should fit against the hoop....

Re: T rods on bassdrum batter side at bottom vs floor tuning issue

Just swap out the 2 rods---seems like a no-brainer to me! Personally I would swap them all out, and eliminate the hassle of re-tuning every time you move the drum and bump the t-handles.

Squirrel cage fans are quieter, and blow the air in a more focused area.

Re: What you hear behind the kit

Badly tuned drums are going to sound like badly tuned drums---I don't care who is playing them. I like my drums wide open---PS-3 bass batter is the only muffling I use. I tune them for the audience,...
