Re: "Jazz Kit" Poll: Yamaha or Gretsch

I would go for a Gretsch Broadkaster if playing jazz. If I wanted a nice sport bike or wave runner, I'd go Yamaha. I've owned both a Stage Custom and Gretsch Catalina maple. I don't have anything...

Re: So, where are they built?..

Sonor's asian lines and Mapex are made in the same KHS factory in China.
Gretsch's asian stuff is made in Taiwan. I'm pretty sure Tama has their own factory in China. Yamaha too.

I presume we're...

Re: Gretsch Drummers - what's the best color/finish?

The guy I bought my Brooklyn set from had a set of Broadkasters in the Satin Copper. They were absolutely beautiful. My Brooklyns are Vintage Creme Oyster but If I could have chosen a finish, the...

Re: Saturn V Tour or SJC?

Hey Bones, What kind of heads (toms/bass drum) come on the Tour versions? BTW, love that finish you chose!

Re: Saturn V Tour or SJC?

I would caution people to read the details of that particular kit as it mentions that there issues with the wrap on more than one of the drums. That said, I've owned a Saturn IV exotic kit and was...

Re: ...going for Sonor SQ2!

Very good info. I tend like a more slappy, semi-dry 70's sound. But it must have the cut associated with that "THWACK" sounding rim shot. Since I posted the above I was able to find a really good...

Re: ...going for Sonor SQ2!

Absolutely stunning kit. How do you like the Greb snare? I'm interested in one of those but I've never played a 13" before.

Re: Anyone have the SONOR SQ1 series with 24 inch kick?

I'd have to think that an SQ1 with a 24,13,16 config would be just a killer setup. That's what I'd go with, in black onyx w/natural hoops (oo lala) but make sure you can fit it in your vehicle....

John Legend's drummer plays a Mapex Armory kit.

Re: Will DW be the next Gibson (financial woes) in the future?

I think DW will be fine. John Good could sell bacon to a pig. While their drums are not my cup of tea, they make very high quality instruments, offer many custom features and finishes. It's rare that...

Re: Mid range kits

I just sold a Renown 5 pc. I hated to sell it. I was determined to get down to only 2 sets (mostly space issues) and it was the odd one out as my others are higher end sets that I REALLY love.

Re: Heads up on Mapex armory - $650...

Actually, the Black Panther kits are Mapex's top of the line. Limited production runs on those though.

Re: Heads up on Mapex armory - $650...

Jeesh, No wonder I can't sell my Renown kit. That's a sweet deal there. Get all new batter heads and you're still under 8 bills.

Re: Cany someone explain the variations of the Starclassic line?

I've owned both the SC Maple and SC BB and the quality is top notch on both. I actually liked the sound of B/B's better than SC Maple. But that's subjective. The hoops, tom mounts. lugs etc are some...

Click in on this at about 2:20 mark (skips the artsy DVD intro) and sit back with some headphones. This is when Andy was younger and really kickin' it. I have this Bete Noire tour on DVD. Really some...

Re: Your full name on your bass drum head

I've always been fond of the drum manufacturer logo without anything else on it. Kind of like seeing a Marshall stack.

I have to admit though, I like that Mitch Mitchell setup. I'd love to get my...

Re: How many have matching snare finish & brand with rest of kit?

Preaching to the choir. Yeah it's pretty and it matches my kit but it's got the old style throw and it's at least 6 years old/new as they discontinued the Delites in 2012. Price on that should be...

Re: How many have matching snare finish & brand with rest of kit?

This is the only one I can find to match my delite set. Beautiful but arm + leg asking price means I'll have to suffer without it.

Re: How many have matching snare finish & brand with rest of kit?

I have a matching snare with my Blk Panther Blk Widow kit. Excellent snare. Really snappy wood sound,
