Re: Is This a 1966 Ludwig

Could be a Classic Birch. They had silver Keystone badges. The maple drums had brass badges.

Re: What's your latest purchase?

Ludwig Standard Maple snare drum.
Aged Chestnut, Alpi engineered wood finish.
6.5x14, 2.3mm hoops, P88 strainer, P32 butt, Ludwig/Remo heads, new 5 ply all maple shell. The shell was a surprise, I...

Re: A shame, but long rumoured :(

That's a shame.
My Sakae made Yamaha Club Customs are great drums.

Re: What's your latest purchase?

6.5x14 solid shell Cherry.
Bought the shell from Drum Foundry and they added the edges, beds and finish. Their work is flawless and the equal of any I have seen.
Precision Drum drilled it and I...

Re: Gretsch chrome over brass snares

Don't forget the badge and wires!
I've owned a 4160 and currently have a Brooklyn 4160 and I prefer the 3mm hoops on the Brooklyn.
Both are great drums.

Re: The new acquisition - walnut thermagloss!

Classic Maples did not come out until the mid to late 90's.
You probably have the six or possibly, four ply shells. Great drums, regardless.

Re: Anyone ever custom ordered a kit?

From my experience, Gretsch is pretty accommodating with the USA made Custom line as far as sizes and finishes.
A good dealer, like Dale's Drum Shop, will get what you want. A 13x15 floor tom should...

Re: Good Ole American made Ludwig Quality Assurance

Nope.
Never had this problem with a drum by any manufacturer. Bent rods, yes but no problems turning rods under high tension.

There are tons of them.

Re: Ludwig Neusonic

They were used on the Classic Birch drums.
Smaller than the Mini-lugs. I would think the quality and design is comparable to it's bigger brothers.

Re: Ludwig Neusonic

"But if drummers would simply listen to the drums, none of this stuff would be an issue."

Bermuda

That would be the end of drum forums.

Re: Ludwig Neusonic

I played a Signet kit in a Guitar Center several years ago and it sounded great.
It just did not identify as a Ludwig with the lugs and badge. If I need a practice kit or a gig kit that I would not...

Re: New Ludwig Standard Maple Snare USA made--looks like a good deal

Basically a Classic Maple snare with an engineered wood veneer for about $200 less.
I have one on order.

Re: My Ludwig Classic Maple Set Has Arrived

Gorgeous wrap and I love the throne.
Sweetwater is very easy to deal with. Bought my DW Performance kit from them.

Re: What's your latest purchase?

Ludwig P35 butt plate to replace the huge P33 version on my LB552 Bronze Supraphonic.
I also removed the lug gaskets, resulting in some splay. I can live with that as the drum now resonates like a...

Very nice and I await the arrival of your Thermogloss kit!
The modern spurs are standard spec on Classic Maples but you can still order the curved spurs. The ft brackets are the Triad version,...

Re: The Sweetwater DW Purpleheart Drum Set seems really nice

Cherry is no longer a standard finish but I believe DW still makes them on special order.

Re: The Sweetwater DW Purpleheart Drum Set seems really nice

Funny you should mention that Performance kit...
Here's mine, 10/12/14/16/22 in Dark Cherry stain. Purchased from Sweetwater. Great drums. Quality, fit and finish is on par with my two Collector's...

Re: would you guess that this is oil or lacquer

That's a satin oil finish.
Here's my satin oil DW/Craviotto that I "freshened" up with three coats of high gloss tung oil.

Re: I'm surprised there are no NEW road worn drums like guitars

Just cleaned her up. Nickel hardware, nickel over brass hoops (I replaced the top hoop with a Ludwig 1.6mm because the original...

Re: Are Drum Heads from factory that bad?

I think the main reason for the swap is not to mark up the factory heads. Would you buy a new kit with used heads?
Also, they probably are very good at tuning all those kits to get the sound they...

Re: I'm surprised there are no NEW road worn drums like guitars

"I believe DW had a difficult time selling every Peart R30 kit (I believe 30 sets) , but that was huge and very expensive (wasn't it $30,000?). The smaller kits (Ringo, Watts, etc) would probably go...
