Re: S-Hoops vs Yamaha Aluminium Cast Hoops

I really like the Yamaha aluminum hoops. They definitely are a great compromise . They allow the toms to be more resonant than zinc Diecast hoops and they focus the sound more and allow more...

Re: New Score off eBay

Very nice purchase, if you are comfortable with the price you paid and can afford it, then that is all that matters. They are very nice drums (I have owned 2 RC kits), typical excellent quality...

Re: Ludwig Element SE Mod Orange 22/12/14

I owned the Citrus Mod Downbeat configuration ( 20/12/14) when they first came on the market. I did not like the snare and sold it. I recall paying $675.00 Canadian for all 4 drums. The shells were...

Re: Too many choices.

Try all your choices, then try the manufacturers high end kits that interest you.
Start looking for a used kit in sizes and a finish you like. You can usually find a high end kit used for around...

Re: That Erskine kit at NAMM

Peter's new Star series kit is interesting for both the color and the fact it is a Bubinga shell with reinforcing rings. I have never seen a Tama Bubinga Kit with reinforcing rings and it looks like...

Re: Gretsch difference

+1 - look for a used Gretsch USA Custom, you should be able to pick one up on your price range. The sound from a USA Custom is iconic and is nothing like the offshore manufactured kits.

Re: DW Jazz Over Gretsch??

I owned the DW Jazz series kit attached. It was DW's champagne glass glitter. The quality was excellent, the rail mount and bass drum lifter was really great. The kit sounded a bit more sterile than...

Re: Roland TD-11KV-S or Yamaha DTX542k (important :))

I own a Roland TD 11KVs and it is fine with the stock sounds, but adding the upgrade sound pack made it a much better kit and well worth the extra $30.00. The expressions TD 11 Apex expansion pack...

Re: Sold my stage customs, looking for mid range maple kit

Personally I think you would be better off looking for a used high end kit than any of the sets you have listed.

Re: Walnut Steam Bent Snare

Walnut is my favourite wood for snare drums. My walnut stave snare is my go to snare drum these days. Cherry would run a close second to walnut for me.
