Re: Drummerworld Dictionary

You have a point Larry. It's not as if relentless embellishment in the pursuit of marketing definition is alien to Mapex (cough - bearing edges - cough) ;)

Re: Drummerworld Dictionary

TBH Larry, It wasn't so much the frequent promotion, it was his overt defensiveness against anything that could be remotely perceived as a negative comment.

I'll come back here with more detail & replies later (a bit busy right now :( Until then, take a listen to this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7lm7a27d68&feature=youtu.be

Re: Is Dennis Chambers ill?

Great news indeed :)

I'm coming over to your place Abe. You obviously have the good stuff ;) ;) ;)

Re: Report from the dark side ;)

Cheers :) A definitive guide to preparing your drums for live mic'ing would be difficult to do, because there's so many variables that are outside of your control. Exceptions being on tour with the...

Re: Sorry I ever got rid of those.

So true John. There's a piece of me & Dean in every kit, but the little steam bent Origin was the first of it's kind, & the only one in that configuration. The 12" deep bass drum brought more...

Re: WHAT WOULD YOU SAY?

Plenty of Yamaha stuff around. I have two small (budget) Yamaha desks that I use for small/backup stuff, & I've used their bigger pro stuff too. All good gear, but A&H (not ZED) has the edge,...

Re: WHAT WOULD YOU SAY?

I run the A&H Mixwiz3 whenever possible, simply because it's bombproof. It has more headroom in all areas than almost any other desk I know. It's way "real world" better than other makes IMHO, from...

Re: GRETSCH BROOKLYN mediocre bad quality?

The fact that the replacement set exhibited similar faults is poor. To make a mistake is human, to make it twice is careless.

Re: Report from the dark side ;)

Very much farm country. I love this little festival. Great vibe all round :)

Agreed Grunt, it's not a big issue, but in my personal opinion, it's just a pointless design. having to jack up the...

Re: WHAT WOULD YOU SAY?

I had to ask that question twice over the last weekend Tony. In both cases, the bands hadn't completed the stage tech questionnaire satisfactorily, & during setup, it was becoming apparent that a...

Re: Sorry I ever got rid of those.

In some ways, I regret letting the little cappuccino kit go to one of our artists, but I'm happy it's in the hands of someone who can bring so much more out of it than I ever could. Those drums will...

Re: Report from the dark side ;)

Absolutely, on all counts Larry. I often play reasonable size gigs using only bass drum & two overheads, but it takes a well tuned kit that delivers tone to carry that off, & a sound engineer who's...

Re: Report from the dark side ;)

Ok, I'll keep this as short as possible, but it's still going to be a ramble. Hopefully you'll all ask questions, & I can fill in the gaps that way. The idea of this thread is to give some insight...

Re: WHAT WOULD YOU SAY?

Hi Joe, good to have you here :)

Depends on the gig of course - could be one up - one down, could be 3 up - 1 down.

If I was running your live sound, I'm having to ask you because you couldn't...

Cheers Jason :) I'm just back from the event, but having to travel today, so will update here this evening. It'll be a long post, but full of info about the presentation of 20+ drum kits, & how...

Re: Report from the dark side ;)

Understatement of the decade! :( Getting to bed at 2:30AM & hauling back out at 10:00AM for yet another full on day is tough on an old boy like me, but I'm enjoying it. No time now, got to go, but...

Report from the dark side ;)

Starting tonight, & for the next three days, I'm running sound & lighting at a local small festival. It's a great event, with just about the best gig vibe ever. Set on a cider farm just 5 miles...

Re: Trusting others with your kit?

Not even close to being harsh enough Steve. That's such a terrible betrayal it's difficult to conceive. I think you're a saint to hold back so well.

Re: New snare build with 5 ply Keller Magnum shell

Couldn't agree more! Then 5 plies becomes 3, & then becomes 1. The closer you get to solid (all other things being equal, especially including quality of construction & design), the more shell tone...

Re: DW Collectors Snare Suggestions?

Your sound requirements are fairly easy to achieve with a large choice of makers & at a range of price levels. If I was to take your requirements list at face value, & at around Collectors money,...

Re: Getting some bad vibrations.

I'm pleased your drums have worked out fine, but as a general rule, I strongly advise against "sanding out" dents & nicks in bearing edges, unless you have a known accurate reference surface to check...

Superb news Dave - Karma indeed!

Is your new online lesson deal in conjunction with Nick Carter's new site? (Just curious).

Great news on the column too. A bit of additional exposure never did...

Re: Mapex Armoury

The marketing messages, although very much exaggerated, are essentially true. A more rounded or small flat bearing edge peak makes tuning a little less sensitive compared to a very sharp edge. ...
