Re: Upgrade From Yamaha DP... 60's Ludwig?

Agreed on the old hardware and 3/8" posts and legs, I have all of my new kits fitted for the old parts. I even use original 1400 stands for cymbals and my snare on my in-town gigs and sessions.

Re: Upgrade From Yamaha DP... 60's Ludwig?

The late-'60s & early '70s Ludwigs are some of the most sought-after vintage drums out there, and perhaps Ludwig's best sounding era for punchy rock drums. They are great drums to find, but they must...

Re: Cool drum beat -

The bongo/conga part and the kick/click/cym are imaginative, but far from difficult (unless you're trying to do both!) But why have it written out if you don't read?

Re: Totally lost

It's important to identify where your weaknesses are, and then work on correcting them until it becomes habit.

For example, using a drum loop or machine - not a metronome click - practice...

Re: Do Youtube Drum Covers Influence What/How You Play?

I don't have anything to compare it to in terms of accuracy. It's just a snare solo, and a bit choppy at times (he's not a rudimental drummer.)

Re: Do Youtube Drum Covers Influence What/How You Play?

This touches on my previous response.

If you're not sure about a part, how do you know the guy on YouTube knows what to do?

Re: Do Youtube Drum Covers Influence What/How You Play?

You need to develop better listening habits to be able to trust your own ears, not someone else's. YT is not a resource for determining the accuracy of parts. The vast majority of drummers and other...

Re: Do Youtube Drum Covers Influence What/How You Play?

Abso-LUTELY not! There's some fun stuff to be found, and occasionally some excellent technical playing, but there's nothing there that I can use in real life (that I don't already know.) Besides,...

Re: Pork Pie Hip Pig Eastern Mahogany Snare

I've been using mine over the last several days of gigs, and it's pretty nice! Looks great with an Onyx head, although that's not my first choice for batters.

Re: Drumming as Art

Some players do possess the art, and it comes through no matter what they play. Whether deliberate or by accident, Ringo is one of those drummers which may explain why his drumming causes such...

Re: Weird Al Wired

That was shot at the end of October and has been on YouTube for some reason, glad to see it's on regular TV now. I advised him to get paid up front, and not in Radio Shack stock! (which has now...

Re: No love for 20" bassdrums?

My 16x20" Keystone is one of my best-sounding, most-used kick drums!

Re: Some advice needed re: accuracy of songs

When playing a straight cover, there's definitely a laziness factor when any musician doesn't strive to play 'the parts'. Sometimes their excuse is 'I want to make it my own', but that generally...

Re: Drum Etiquette at Open Jams

I would also suggest not bringing an extra tom. However, swapping a pedal or snare doesn't change the setup, or interrupt the flow of the jam for more than a few moments, so that would be acceptable....

Re: Ludwig Legacy Mahagony

I wish I had more info, but I haven't seen these yet.

IF they're making the shells the way they used to, with Mahogany on the inside as well, they will be winners! The '50/'60s was a classic era...

Re: Cymbal Progressios

I also just hit cymbals.

I do give deliberate thought as to what cymbals I decide to hit on a particular occasion, but I simply listen and decide what sounds pleasing, as opposed to applying any...

Re: Where's the best place to find a drummer for my band?

No faux pas... going where the drummers go is the smartest move. There are several Brits here, I'm sure you'll get some responses.

Good luck!

A little tuning on the batter (and a lot on the reso) and this drum sounds great! Going on a gig Friday for its debut!

Re: A Singing Drummer's Mic Set-up

I get to sing a little with Al, and my mic is on a boom at my left. So I need to turn my head to sing, but that's okay. I would be wary of a boom or gooseneck that puts the mic in front of me, as I'd...

Re: Drumeo worth it?

if your intent is to learn drumming pretty much from scratch, it's hard to beat a good teacher for true interactivity and progress, at least initially. Once you have the basics down - and reading is...
