Re: Brain Game

I can do it!

Reminds me of "My Aunt Came Back" from music class in elementary school.

Re: Using splash cymbals

Use splashes as much as you want. Replace cliché kit components with splashes. Splash hats, splash ride, splashes instead of toms, etc.

Splish splash you'll be takin' a bath.

Re: Warning, imminent British invasion of New Jersey & New Orleans!

It's up to him to figure out how to the sailboat to the Atlantic and back home. He's the one who wants it so badly (remember, Andy? You alway wanted my dirty old...er...pristine racing sloop!) And my...

Re: Drum Suspension Systems

I'll add my 2¢ here by saying that the original RIMS mounts and whatever dw/pdp call their mounts are the only schmancy tom-hangers that have ever made any sense to me. Everything else that's clamped...

Re: Snare Drum made from Seamless Stainless Steel Pipe

Awesome! I'm excited to see the video! One of if not the best snare I ever played was a stainless dw; this thing's twice the size but I'm sure it sounds great.

I don't know if my kick drum and...

Re: Warning, imminent British invasion of New Jersey & New Orleans!

If you stop by Michigan, you can hear my band's British accents that we've been practicing! Bobby's from Essex, I'm possibly from somewhere in England, and Don just really doesn't know what he's...

Re: R.I.P. James "Turtle" Morgan

Finding out that none of this is true upset me.

Re: Sound affected by drum finishes/wraps PART 1

Probably black. Her clothes were absorbing all of the light energy being reflected from the drum, hence her enthrallment. Lighter clothes would reflect more light, leaving the wearer unimpressed.

Re: The sound guy

You're a genius, GDM.

I think we could all put high-end logos on our cheap kits and reliably get more compliments/attention on our sound and probably even playing. At least from non-drum-nerds....

Re: 8 years of professional teaching - time to give it away

I think a lefty being able to play lefty kits 100% of the time would be cool and all, but lefties are already used to having to adapt to right-handed things and tasks all the time, so they're usually...

That moment when you realize a double-stroke is part of the paradiddle...

In high school we were forced to practice our doubles until we could switch from doubles to singles and back without it...

Re: Help me choose a second snare drum

The lay-on-top muffling can go along with the lower tuning, so yeah, it might take a minute or five to re-tune. But it does work pretty nice for some stuff. Also remOs, the evans equivalents,...

Re: The order of things....

Replace that which you hate the most first. But before that, get a nice throne.

The sound guy

Share your sound guy stories! Good or bad...probably mostly bad. Best? Worst? Adequate-to-incompetent ratio? (I'm guessing 1:4)

I'll start with a kind-of funny one. At this one gig, I couldn't...

Re: The worst gig of my life

You should have kicked that beer all over the sound guy's rig. Oops; now he can't use his gear tonight and no one warned him.

This has inspired me to make a soundguy thread.

Re: lucky charm?

I still have all of the boxes and packaging that my X7s came in...over three years ago. Somebody break in and take them to recycle, please...I can't bring myself to.

Re: Just bought my first kit. How'd I do?

Very nice! I really dig the sizes. Unfortunately I know nothing about what kind of pearl that might be, but it seems like you got a great deal.

Also, is that your rug, or the seller's rug? Nice...

Re: Snare Drum Comparison, Observations

I think noob drummers love dead drums like hack guitarists love too much gain. Or that they hate overtones like noob guitarists hate mids. I definitely agree with your first and last points, KamaK.

Re: Last piece of gear you forgot?

Forgot my hihat stand last year. Not the first time it's happened, either. The drummer up after us kindly let me use his with my own hats.

Forgot the rug once or twice. I think I lucked out and...

Re: Show your kits that I don't know about

On second thought, I have no idea why I thought that pearl and north had anything to do with each other. I thought pearl acquired them at some point, but the wikipedia tells me that MTI made them at...

Re: Why do the wooden hoops on this snare have flat straight sections?

I keep my snares on the floor behind my kit, lined up and sitting on their sides. It seems like this snare would like to roll if it didn't have a low spot on the hoop. And if they're going to cut one...
