Re: Camera to Record Some Drumming Things for Youtube

Iím no expert, but in the right light most smartphones can record perfectly good video footage at 1080p... I think the problem is that the audio sucks. Especially for the dynamics of a drum kit.

Re: The Art of Drumming - TV Show

I watched the first episode with my boy earlier this week. It was great and weíll definitely watch the remaining three episodes. Steve White is a top, top guy. He gave a session about the clave at...

Re: Does drumming get easier?

I think I’ve read your question differently from everyone else here. You seem to be wanting to know if you’ll find it easier to work out new stuff as you gain experience. For me, the answer is yes.

Re: How do you practice?

Iím not sure I understand - are you asking how you should use your drum practice time or how you should spend your time practicing across all three instruments? Because I think the answers may be...

Re: If you could educate the public about one thing concerning drumming/percussion, what would it be

I like this and totally agree. My boyís ability to pick up the guitar, bass and keyboards definitely stems from his drumming. Iíve seen him overtake more experienced guitar students of the same age...

Re: Is the drummer population aging?

Hmmm, I’m not sure it’s stubbornness from the venues. Pretty much every venue ever is run as a business - they book the bands that bring in the money. If bands bring in audiences (and bar spend),...

Re: Is the drummer population aging?

This is the point, I think. Venues put on events for audiences, not for musicians. While there are still young people learning instruments with a desire to make music, younger audiences are in...

Re: When is a good time to quit a band?

No, it doesnít. Not a helpful comment.

Disagree. R_M suggested that these guys are inexperienced. Maybe they just need clearer guidance and set expectations based on agreed goals.

Re: When is a good time to quit a band?

R_M, I think you need to be clearer as a band about what youíre trying to achieve in these sessions. Is it a jam, is it practice, or is it rehearsal? I donít think Iíd expect a guitarist to be...

Re: Blast-Beat...the origins

It’s a good film. Rocky is a good film. Neither gives an accurate depiction of the subject matter, but very few films do. The boxing/drumming is only there to carry the story/drama.

But yeah,...

Re: Theory: Nobody wants anything new

I can answer that one - because itís great. Haters gonna hate, but I have a Les Paul Studio with the robot and I love it. ďYou canít tune your own guitar?Ē Of course I can, but the simplicity of...

Re: Entry level kit for home practice

The Aquarian Super Pads seem to be hard to come by. In the UK, I can only find one retailer and it’s charging £100 for a 14” pad.

My boy practices on a Rhythm Traveller, Pearl Mesh heads and...

Re: Is this a Trick throw off or Dunnett roto?

Thanks Tommy and sonormapex.

Iíve spoken to the store and the only option they will offer is to return the drum for a refund. So Iím going to do that.

Itís not that the R7 is a bad throw off,...

Re: Is this a Trick throw off or Dunnett roto?

Thanks. Yeah, thatís what I think it is. I take your point on the Trick, but it was actually the feature that pushed me over the edge on this purchase - my boyís got two pieces for his grade seven...

Is this a Trick throw off or Dunnett roto?

Just bought this drum off the Internet for my son:

And while it does...

Heís posted it before, but I think that Alís food rhythm chart is brilliant. I wish Iíd have had that when I was younger. Yes, it requires interpretation, but itís a teaching aid...

Re: Sometimes the most talented drummers can be the worse teachers ever

Is your son not working on drum grading exams? My boy (14) is learning from the Trinity College drum kit syllabus through his school. And the structure has worked out really well for him. He started...

Re: Upcoming gig

In your situation, song choice should be led by the singer.

If the singer can sell the song, 90% of the audience wonít care what the guitars, bass or drums are playing as long as itís in tune and...

Iíve just played through and headed over to Google for a...

Re: London Drum Show

Yes, it was Olympia. The acoustics are definitely part of the problem, but invariably two drummers would sit down next to each other and flail away at different rhythms and tempos, each trying to...

Re: London Drum Show

Definitely not an unqualified success, but the advice that keep it simple gave me made the day worthwhile (so thanks for that).

Re: Drums for my 10 year old BLIND nephew

I did wonder about this, but pursue any instrument and youíll ultimately be exposed to loud sounds that can damage your hearing. In some ways it may be better to encourage drumming and just ensure...

Re: Drums for my 10 year old BLIND nephew

A pair of sticks and a practice pad would be a good present. Itís where every young drummer should start.

London Drum Show

Got the feeling from some of the recent threads about the UK (Manchester) Drum Show that the London Drum Show is a bit ďmehĒ in a lot of peopleís minds. Which is marvellous, because Iíve got two...
