Re: NAMM 2015 - Saturn V - I need info! (Excited)

I think that the Mapex marketing folks might very well draw the attention of the F.T.C with this one. As I understand it, once something leaves the factory and is delivered to a retail outlet it...

Re: Walberg and Auge is back

If you look at the listing you see that they're using a shell made in China, WorldMax, that is available just about everywhere for the brass snares. They're also advertising that they're using...

Re: Recycling popcorn

Let's see here. A whole new line of boutique drums. "Guru Surplus Special". Andy, this bordering on sadism. Making a snare that pretty and having it be one of a kind is just cold man8^)! That really...

Re: Great car for a drummer

I'm an electrical engineer and I really miss the old mechanical ignition systems. Quite often an expensive car repair is due more to a defective sensor or firmware than it is to a malfunctioning...

Re: Dire Straits....

Yeah, it's a lot like "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover". You don't realize what a great piece of drumming that Steve Gadd played on that until you break it down. People are still studying that one after...

Re: Carmine Appice Lobbies For Led Zeppelin Drum Spot

Man, talk about a egotistical, self-promoting jackass! Carmine got lucky with the whole Vanilla Fudge thing but I haven't heard him doing much since. Fudge got famous by covering a Motown song with a...

Re: Dire Straits....

I couldn't agree more. Withers was always tasteful and played as much like a jazz drummer as he did as a rocker. His cymbal work on "Sultans Of Swing" is as good as any I've heard. I know it's a...

Re: Metal drum kit? (shell material, not music :)

I vote bronze! It's about time that I can vote for something that I like8^). Bronze seems to be naturally warmer than the other metals listed. How hard is it to work bronze?

Re: How to place air vents on my 3 ply African Mahogany Shells

I'd say just go with one vent. I tried one of those Pork Pies with the multiple vents and it was too dry. That's just my taste. I am seeing more drums with the vent just above the bottom head but the...

Re: Kevlar snare shells?

I've got Maple and Mahogany shelled drums. When the Kevlar comes in I'll do a comparison betwixt the three. Man, we've got a nice array of physicists on this forum! Reminds me of my school days.

Re: Am I a freak for not liking virgin bass drums?

I've got that on my Saturns and I love it! The mounting systems that Mapex uses really do their job. Before that I've had Ayottes with virgin bass drums and years of Tamas with the mounting post and...

Re: Evolving tastes

You need to go down to Nawlins son. Those Creole girls can cook inside and outside of the kitchen.

Re: My Repair of a Wrecked Pearl Masters Snare

Re: Shannon Forrest Drum Kit w/TOTO

Didn't Jeff Porcaro help come up with the idea of using a rack. Perhaps this was a nod him and his great drumming. Racks can be a lot easier to use. I do hate the Pearl tom arms though8^).

Re: Kevlar snare shells?

Thanks Pyro! I saw this one and several others that were a composite of carbon fiber and Kevlar. I was just wondering how Kevlar sounds on it's own. God knows I don't need any more snares, or maybe I...

Kevlar snare shells?

I've looked through the forum and I haven't seen anything on this. Has anyone heard or played a snare where the shell is made of Kevlar? I tried YouTube also with no luck. I would think that the...

Re: 15" snares

Years ago I found a 15 x 10 or 12" Ludwig field drum at a yard sale. The woman who was selling it was a member of an all woman drum corps during World War II. She knew her stuff. The drum itself has...

Re: Pork Pie Hip Pig Eastern Mahogany Snare

I definitely like the "glass is half full" approach but they really didn't have any choice. All I had to do is contest the charge and bring the matter up with the consumer bureau. Credit card fraud...

I tried that. They just sent an email saying how sorry they were for the inconvenience. I had left work early so that I could make sure that the package arrived safely. I found out about the...

Re: Is this an an Acrolite?

If you ever get close to it try the old magnet test. Magnets won't stick aluminum or brass.

Re: Pork Pie Hip Pig Eastern Mahogany Snare

Just a little update. MF sent a refund without telling me why or asking if I wanted a rain check. No word from them at all. They just kind of snuck it under the door. They've lost my business forever.

Re: Pork Pie Hip Pig Eastern Mahogany Snare

You guys might want to keep looking for this deal. I just ordered one from MF for $99. I didn't see any more but one might surface.
