I couldn't agree more. They should have just used their instruments normally, but recorded using a 4/8-track and minimal mics. Worked great for Primus on the Brown Album.

That's my exact set up on my LX and it sounds awesome. Pefect mixture of low-end punch and just enough overtone to have life and not sound like a dull thud.
