Re: Famous drums intro...

Queens of the Stone Age - Song For The Dead (Grohl)

Black Flag - Slip It In

They're pretty similar.

Re: Have your drumming tastes changed over the years?

I would say so. Before I started playing (but when I wanted to) I liked the busier drummers like Neil Peart, and I've slowly started to appreciate groove a LOT more, and I like a nice solid beat...

I'm interested in this, I've never noticed any that I thought weren't done on purpose.

Re: Other drummer's bad/nasty/uncomfortable drum sets!

I know A LOT of drummers feel this way, but I just don't. I have a one up two down single kick kit with hats, a crash and a ride, and I've had to play on other kits (my old band's bass player was a...

Re: How to Record Practice Sessions

I've done that as well, but I use two at different corners of the room and record to Acid Pro 7. Sounds ok for a kitchen.

Re: Your votes please! Short or long sustain.

Afetr watching both videos, I decided I wasb't going to base my decision on the videos. A friend of mine has a Tama kit that he's got muffled to hell, and I hate it. My kit, on the other hand, is...

I was going to comment on this thread but I decided not to when I saw that, even though I did anyway...

Re: Which hand technique has the most speed 'potential'?

I tend to believe that if you train hard enough and want it bad enough, you can do it. Everyone's body works generally the same way, you just have to train it to do different things. Just takes time...

Re: Playing light and slow.

I would guess that it's no more beneficial than playing fast; but it's something that's definitely important to practice. You never know when you'll need to play light and slow or hard and fast.

Re: Jazz - most challenging drum style?

I agree that it's what you listen to. I grew up listening to Reggae in the Caribbean and then through high school I got into rock (which is what got me into drums), and I can play those two pretty...

Re: Drummer things that I do

I air drum at work, my coworkers think I'm retarded, but whatever.

I drum on my steering wheel too.

And I do triplets on my legs when I walk.

Re: Drum dampening/muffling techniques

PS3s on the kick, coated emperors on the toms, coated ambassadors on all snares, not really any muffling. One of my steel snares has an internal muffler, but I rarely use it.

OH WAIT. I have an...

Re: How to figure out timing?

I understand time signatures and if someone tells me what to play in, I can, but I can never count when listening to a song unless it's something I recognize easily like 3/4 or 7/4.

Re: So is ANYONE capable of drumming?

Anyone can learn to do anything anyone else can do. We're all made of the same stuff, it just depends what we practice and what we focus on.

I was a bit of a natural when it came to drums, but...

Well you can't smoke pot in a bar, so that doesn't work.

I get what you're saying, Larry, you're not saying that the police were wrong (maybe the one was a little rude) but were just sharing a...

Re: Name the Foo drummer

It did have to grow on me at first...it's getting to the point where I make myself listen to something else.

I think I'm in agreement with Dear Rosemary. Still scanning for the second one.

Re: Name the Foo drummer

Dave and Taylor play very much alike, I don't even want to try this. But I guess I will, since it's an excuse to listen to that album AGAIN. =)

Or did I miss some well placed sarcasm? This is honestly the most hostile thread on this forum, but I had to post.
