Re: Recording a cover officially - our story so far

Question for you, Andy. What happens after the three years? You take the recording down? You renew? You no longer get $ for downloads? How does that work?

Re: What sticking do you use?

I agree - those little differences are what make us each sound different.

As for me, I'd probably play it RL RL RL RL RLR for a straight rock feel.

If I wanted a bit more of a swung feel, I'd...

Re: Calling all drummers to take a survey!

IDK man, I used to get a set of free drinking glasses for taking marketing surveys, lol.

Re: Y'all ever seen this dude?

To the OP, no, I never saw that guy before. He's a good player! Shades of a young, white Carter Beauford, lol.

Re: New Drums Weekend!

Alright! "New Drum Weekend," also known as "The Weekend" at Bo's house. lol

All kidding aside, I like them. I like birch drums, myself, and that finish is much better than the green your friend...

Re: Anyone covered Tom Sawyer on a small kit?

Yes, exactly.

Even when you aren't at the kit, you can practice keeping it in tempo in your head, especially if you have a metronome app on your phone or something.

You just count that measure...

Re: Anyone covered Tom Sawyer on a small kit?

This is going to be even more difficult to say clearly here, but in that exaample, I would count the triplet pulse in my head as "Three -trip-let Four-trip-let." Here's the trick - each of those...

Re: Anyone covered Tom Sawyer on a small kit?

The 32nd note doubles are fine with a single pedal, it's only the extended rolls that needed adaptation, in my case. As for the toms rolls, I just played the pattern on fewer toms. You'd be amazed at...

Re: Anyone covered Tom Sawyer on a small kit?

I have covered it on a four piece, with a single pedal. I just did Bonham style triplets for the big fill in the middle.

Re: A Non-Anonymous Section..?

I kind of get what you are saying, and I do think it would cut down a bit on the "critical bravery" that was mentioned.

On the flip side, whether a real name or fake name, in-person or on the...

Re: 12" or 14"

I'll elaborate on my answer, too. When it comes to larger toms, I find you need a larger gap in diameter to hear a really distinct pitch difference in a band situation. I'd rather have the 13-16 gap...

Re: 12" or 14"

I'd go with 12, but I really like 12 inch toms, so it's a no brainer for me.

Re: 100,000 Years Shuffle

I'm sure there have been ghost drummers on any number of KISS tracks, but in the referenced interview, the earliest album even mentioned as a possibility was Destroyer, and 100,000 Years came way...

Re: Instrument differences and relearning what I thought I already knew

Great post, and also a great response from Larry regarding buying with your eyes or for the Mojo. I think how you feel about your instrument makes more difference than the instrument itself.

I...

Re: $50 yard sale score

That color doesn't suck nearly as much as I imagined, but I'd still probably repaint. Still, definitely worth the $50. Have fun!

Re: Identify This Ludwig Kit

When I ordered my Ludwig Classic Maples you could choose options for lugs, finishes, hardware, etc, and that included hoops. Either someone wanted them plain, or they replaced them with aftermarket...

Re: Shallow 18" Kick

Great question, because if it is a SuperKick I'm not at all surprised the tone is dead.

A PS3 or Evans equivalent with no other muffling works best for me on my 14X18 Tama.

Re: A couple of things I'm not digging from Ludwig

Oh yes, that's right, the Elite mount.

Luckily I've had no trouble with the wing screws.

Re: A couple of things I'm not digging from Ludwig

Hmmm, the floor tom leg mounts on my Classic Maples are neither restricted to 9mm nor are they as big as the Atlas. Do they not offer that any more? It seems perfect to me, and fits in a case. Let me...
