Re: Drum & Cymbal Company Logos

Interesting topic. I wonder if manufacturers know how deeply a logo effects many of us, with impressions of quality or cheapness, cool or campy, professional or amateurish being evoked by a simple...

Indeed. It's quite a shock, isn't it?

Re: Some band drama

I would see your experiences with the new band as a string of warnings that this is not where you want to be. I suspect that you are in for a lot of frustrating disappointments. To the point: get out...

Re: Remo Roto Toms problem!

This is exactly how I fixed the issue when I still played roto toms. Are you sure you are understanding what KEEF is recommending? If the roto tom stand is moved toward the big tom, it will sit under...

Re: Geeking out a little!

On the issue of bass drum creeping, when I first started drumming in the 1960s, it was just natural to tie the throne to the bass drum with a piece of rope to stop the bass drum from walking away....

Re: my Yamaha Absolute Hybrid Maple

That kit is "Absolutely" gorgeous. There is something very special about higher end Yamaha drums that simply must be experienced firsthand to understand. To me, they feel and sound very different...

Re: Sitting at the helm of Pro's

I think Jimzo is just offering a good, common sense observation. It may be helpful for newby drummers to understand exactly why drums are set up the way they are.

Want to know what a left-handed...

Re: I'm thinking about staining the inside of my Pearl SSCs... Am I crazy?

Well, if Pearl does indeed spray the shell interior with "a thin coat of satin clear sealer," you may as well forget the stain option. A sealer does just what the name implies - it seals the wood...

Re: Counting off the song w/banter

As long as the singer's banter is not rude, obnoxious, or downright boring, I would welcome his actions. Like radio, silence between songs is uncomfortable for the audience. They love good banter....

Re: Moaning' Jazz ride

I think you are sounding just fine, Art. This reminds me of going to a teacher at the music store where I worked and asking him to work with me. This guy was an old hand who had always made his...

Very cool, Josh. I love it. Now to LEARN it. Arrrrgh.

Re: Heel up - arrrgh!

I hate to say it, but you should probably ignore your teacher's advice. That method is obviously not for you, and the time you will invest in learning it might be wasted if you don't regularly use it...

Re: THe Conway Slingerlands have been Rescued

Wow, Brian! The GK kit is ridiculously beautiful. And the hardware looks first rate. You can be sure that if I had the money I would have bought one of the Conway kits.

Once I get my upload...

Re: My live playing sucks

Excellent observations here, too. I've been playing for over fifty years, and these things still happen occasionally. The last time it happened was when a band member remarked that I was playing a...

Re: THe Conway Slingerlands have been Rescued

Yep, that's the low end line that Slingerland was importing at the time. I think they are called Jam King or Jam Something, can't remember at the moment. He has a few of those kits, too, that will be...

Re: THe Conway Slingerlands have been Rescued

It's been made clear from the beginning that the Concert King kits were made in Taiwan (just like almost everything made of metal on practically every kit you buy, regardless of price), while the...

Re: Before and after!

The wood hoops look MUCH better, Bo. And leave them unpainted. I love that look. Good move.

Re: THe Conway Slingerlands have been Rescued

Color didn't matter. And the Walnut kit just happened to be easy to get to. It was at the front of the line! I was very busy yesterday and didn't get a chance to fiddle with the kit, but I did pull...

Re: THe Conway Slingerlands have been Rescued

I'm getting it from John. He has a LOT of hardware, parts, etc that never made it into kits. He said he has "hundreds" of engraved hoops, tom mounts, all kinds of stuff.

I need to make some...

Re: THe Conway Slingerlands have been Rescued

Sorry, Jim - I just couldn't wait! The set is sitting here in my bedroom right now waiting to be unboxed, but I'm so tired from the 300 mile round trip (Hey, I'm an old guy!) that I'll probably wait...

Re: THe Conway Slingerlands have been Rescued

Picking mine up in the morning! Still haven't decided on a color.

As for the Radio King sets, I'll have to add that to my question list.

Re: THe Conway Slingerlands have been Rescued

Nope. I really should not have brought it up, I guess, since I can't reveal who it is. It'll show up in the MI press soon, I would think.

Re: Check Out Bonzo

Wonder why they played to a track? Most of the performances found on the old English TV shows were done live.
