I could also play drums on a small keyboard with my fingers and go ways faster then 1/16th notes at 250 bpm. But then what? You'd say that I am not a drummer because I play with my fingers instead...

Or you could just play that note that you play with the right hNd on the snare, WITH THE LEFT. You'd be able to go much faster because you eliminate that "flick of the wrist " that you have to do.

use the dw 2000 series foot tambourine pedal. I use it without the plastic stop that comes with it and it adds tons of groove feels to songs.

Keep the vamp going and leave a lot of space , the way a timbalero would.
Listen to some Tito puente solo and try to do domething similar. Can't go wrong with that !!!

I'd call it a basic "cascara groove". with the nick only ont the "and of 2" of the 3 side of the clave.
I you play the kick on "the and of 2" and "4" of both bars, that would be a more americanized...

work on his method with a 3-2 and 2-3 son and rumba clave (he only does 3-2 rumba most of the time). Most dance music is on 2-3 son clave, so do all that stuff with that :...
