I have mild scoliosis and spina bifida as well. And I had this problem for awhile, and honestly I'm still fixing it but it's not quiet as bad.

Coming from someone with arthritis, carpel tunnel, and tendinitis (yes all 3) I agree with this to an extent. You do need to rest, but you also need to exercise them. Muscle helps protect the joints....

I can't think of a reason to do isolated thumb exercises. I am sure your thumb is not "weak". I bet you just lack control with it, and that is giving you a mixed signal.
